Nice layout but mind the geese
An intriguing layout with a mixture of short and long holes as well as some tight drives to manage in between trees. Course was in good condition and being well fertliised by the loca geese. Make sure you wash you shoes or cart wheels post round! Once small bugbear, prices for visitors had been hiked due to Covid-19 which seemed a little short-sighted for my personal liking(Round played: May 2020 - Score: 84 Handicap: 10.3)

Courteous players
I joined Benton Hall recently but was nearly put off by the negative comments on here about pace of play and bad etiquette. These worries were totally unfounded. I played as a solo player today and was waved through by four separate three and four balls who had no real reason to do so and were all very cheery as I played my way through. Very courteous golfers. Super pleased to have chosen Benton Hall as my club, it’s a beautiful course in fine condition despite the recent heavy rainfall. The greens are fast and true, and hold perfectly with well struck approaches. Looking forward to a fine summer of golf now!Reviewer Rating

Main problem is other golfers
Love the course itself but after a number of bad experiences with extremely slow and repeatedly poor behaviour by other players we no longer play this course.Reviewer Rating

nice but v busy
This is a interesting and tricky course.Greens were great when we went but fairways very dry.
I dont think they have the ability to water the fairways at all
But note, its very busy all day with lots of members and guests
Guest fees are steep and the clubhouse was closed due to covid

I knwo it has had bad reviews but as far as I'm concerned there was not a thing wrong with it.
Greens ran true, fairways were well maintained....even the bunkers were great ;-)
I went as part of a try golf weekend and play their twilight for £9. Excellent value for money.
Was a very tricky course, maybe not for the complete begineer but it will still be a really enjoyable round. Lovely views from most, if not all the tee's.
Will definately be going back and would highly recomend this course to anyone!

given that the course is undulating and tiring on the legs, these last four holes can kill your game.
the 15th has a river or stream, depending on time of year, just in front of the green, you wont see it on your second shot but if you hit your second long towards the green you may end up in it.
the 16th is an iron shot over water to the green on this nice par 3. not as easy as it looks.
17th, a pond in front of the tee, a river on the right of the fair way travelling right to left then right again, a river on the left of the fairway, all this leaving you a narrow fairway to hit at, oh and there is another stream about 80 yards from the pin, if that is not enough to contend with then make sure you are accurate with your t shot as there is a public footpath on the left running all the way past the 18th.
the 18th is a dog leg right with a river about 100ft in front of the t and a river running either side of the fairway. not as bad as the others as long as you cut the corner off with your t shot.
this course gets very busy, they hold competitions almost every weekend which is wwhy i left, if you were not in the competition you could never get a t time before midday.
try it and enjoy it as it is challenging and very enjoyable on a nice day.
oh, one last thing, the greens used to get very water logged in winter but this may be sorted now as they have a new green keeper.
good luck.

The course was in excellent condition, considering that we were playing at the beginning of February, with only a couple of tee boxes that required you to play from mats and the couple of temporary greens that made the Alps look flat !
The holes are generally challenging and some course management is required (one of my playing partners used a 9 iron followed by a wedge on one of the par 3s to avoid plirting with the stream protecting the green, a good move as it turned out). It is a long walk between some of the holes and this could be an issue for any bag carriers.
Other than the temporary green the major disappointment was the lack of a driving range. I am given to understand that a few years ago they decided to put a gym on top of what was their range. They have a proactice, bunker, green and a par 3 course so a range seems an obvious omission.
The club house facilities are excellent with a moderately well stocked pro shop.
I will be returning in the summer to see the course in its full glory.

The course is superb to play, from the lovely sloping 4th with its tough approach from the valley to the green, to the lovely 16th Par 3 - can't say I've laid up on many par 3's before! The tee's are normally in very good condition, the greens are well kept and true.
I would recommend the course to anyone, I would hesitate before doing the same for the club as a whole.

Mudlark
Played Saturday afternoon in light drizzle positives were the greens in good condition. The rest of the course was soaking and muddy, the grounds people must be crying. Should have been closed as will take some weeks to recover the course. Booked 18 holes but only played 9 as was not enjoying the course.Reviewer Rating

Overpriced
Good course, challenging hold Design at times. However, the green peas are too high for a course like this. I've played a number of different courses and don't see the justification for green fees this high. The greens are in good condition, the tea boxes were in decent condition. Fairways were good.Reviewer Rating

Tidy track, very friendly club
Course is challenging but always interesting. A few too many tight tree lined fairways at times but very good greens and overall presentation was above average. The club and members seem very friendly, welcoming and with some nice food and drink options to round off the long and hilly walk. Well worth a go.Reviewer Rating
