Massive shame!!

Mudlark
Played Saturday afternoon in light drizzle positives were the greens in good condition. The rest of the course was soaking and muddy, the grounds people must be crying. Should have been closed as will take some weeks to recover the course. Booked 18 holes but only played 9 as was not enjoying the course.Reviewer Rating

Main problem is other golfers

A summer course.
Although Benton Hall is a superb course during the summer months at this time of year it is a typical Essex clay based course. At times the course should be closed but is kept open for whatever reason and although the greenkeeping staff are very good there is not a lot they can do about the wet weather which turns the course into a carry only muddy course.(Round played: Jan 2018 - Score: 94 Handicap: 15.9)

Came over midweek not told men's comp was out that morning had 11 people on one hole walked off at the 10th disgrace for the money

The course condition is ok save for some mud balls on back ( but some holes were designed by M Mouse- riduclous.

Played as part of a charity golf day in March. Half the tees were off boxes even though the course was not damp at all, very disappointing and ruined a great day.

played this course twice in the last 2 weeks.1st time could only play 13 holes in 4hours 20 mins. then gave up had enough !!! . today 23/09 managed to finish in 5 hrs 30mins. had to wait at every tee between 5 &10 mins. no sign of any golf ranger /marshell. P.S. fairways bare & dry. greens very sandy & bumpy. overall not a very enjoyable day playing golf.

It seems the golf is being swept aside to make room for the fitness centre. The shop is much smaller now and there is no driving range and very limited practice areas. Very pricy too, probably to make up for the gym and health centre. Course is in fairly good nick though.

Could be a very good course, but the greens are terrible. Earlier in the year they were nearly as long as the fairway, recently they had been spiked & heavily - no warning when booking.

I have found the atmosphere is not as I would wish for visitors. The course is generally good.
The staff in the clubhouse appear to be doing a favour when serving you, this is the reason I left the club.

Staff lay out and changing rooms bar very good but I think when you are dressing the greens 1 we should be told before play 2 I think should reflect in the pricing

Overpriced
Good course, challenging hold Design at times. However, the green peas are too high for a course like this. I've played a number of different courses and don't see the justification for green fees this high. The greens are in good condition, the tea boxes were in decent condition. Nice layout but mind the geese
An intriguing layout with a mixture of short and long holes as well as some tight drives to manage in between trees. Course was in good condition and being well fertliised by the loca geese. Make sure you wash you shoes or cart wheels post round! Once small bugbear, prices for visitors had been hiked due to Covid-19 which seemed a little short-sighted for my personal liking(Round played: May 2020 - Score: 84 Handicap: 10.3)

nice but v busy
This is a interesting and tricky course.Greens were great when we went but fairways very dry.
I dont think they have the ability to water the fairways at all
But note, its very busy all day with lots of members and guests
Guest fees are steep and the clubhouse was closed due to covid

The course was in good condition but the greens were not quite as good as they were 2 weeks ago. Overall it was good and the general overall condition is also good.

Enjoyed
Good course. Friendly staff and course starters. Enjoyed the round.Some very slow golfers but they were quick to let us through as we came in.
Greens were very bobbly though after a recent treatment to all of them. And overwatered for the day
