Good but could be great

A great layout with some brilliantly designed holes and far reaching views. The greens, fairways and tee boxes are very well maintained and the clubhouse and practice facilities are excellent! The course is unfortunately badly let down by the bunkers which are poor. The sand is brown/coarse and depth varies hugely between bunkers. A lot of bunkers are not ‘edged’ and some bunker walls are collapsing. I really hope the club will allocate funds for an extensive programme of works to renovate and improve bunkers. Only then will it be able to complete with the likes of John o gaunt and Dunstable downs.

Excellent Challenge

Great course with plenty of challenges- course management is key. Lots of sloping lies. Greens are in great shape, fast and true. Some long par 4s. Wind speed and direction will affect how you play the course.
Hit good shots and you will be rewarded- but bad tee shots won't kill your round either as the course is fairly open and the rough not overly penal.
Thoroughly recommend if you're in the area. Be aware, it is quite a busy course so you will need to book in advance!

Well maintained, enjoyable course

My friend and I have played at The Bedfordshire as visitors for a number of years and have always enjoyed playing there. Our visit in June 2019 was no exception.

The course is very well maintained and is quite challenging both in terms of difficulty and physicality. The staff are all very friendly and the food quality has improved since we were last here. We would play here again.

I am considering joining this club so got the green fee for guest rate of £16 which is excellent value for money. The course is in great condition with some of the best greens in the area. The course is quite open and forgiving and the rough is not too severe. The 14th par 5 and 15th par 3 over the water are the stand out holes for me. Definitely will be back as the twighlight fee of £20 now starts at 3pm.

I've been a member here at The Bedfordshire since October 2010 having been a member of the Academy course, I decided to try the 'Real thing' The course is fantastic, very well maintained, every hole a challenge and the greens can really test your putter. The front nine is great, you get the feeling of ' Yep this isn't so bad' although the first tee is very daunting with the 2 oak trees right infront of you! but the back nine is a whole different ball game, and you really need to be on top of your Drive. The fairways can catch you out as they run with the lie of the land. Two water hazards are waiting for you on the 14th par 5 and 15th par 3. On the whole a great course which never seems to play the same. The wind is a major factor on the course though, and if you play there a lot like I do, its something that you quickly have to get used to. Great pro shop with a 24 bay floodlit driving range. Club house with great food. What more could you ask for !!

Excellent test for all handicap's. Course is rather exposed and wind plays a big part on most of the course so you have to take this on board. Greens are very true as in you get what you see, so read them right and you will be ok. Only criticism is the sand in the bunkers is not the best.

Well worth a visit

The course is in good order, and has survived the really hot summer, although preferred lies was brought in from 24th August, and the ponds are a little low on water. The trees planted when the course was built are looking much more part of the landscape rather than looking like additions.

The course has become renowned for it's difficulty when the wind blows, but when we played on Monday in a County Fun Day, it was calm, and even off the black tees it's only 6560 yards, so not the longest, and scoring seemed quite easy.

The course itself looked very good, and the greens, tees and fairways were in perfect condition. The bunkers do seem to let the course down, as they have very heavy course orange sand in them, and so are more difficult to play out of than they should be. The two I visited were also of very differing depth/quality, with little to no sand for one particular lie.

We were fed as part of our package, and the food was good, I can't therefore comment on pricing. Staff were all very polite and friendly.

I'm happy to say I'd play again.

Well worth a visit

The course has improved considerably since I last played it over a decade ago. The planted trees are looking much more part of the course rather than looking like additions. The course has become renowned for it's difficulty when the wind blows, as it did today for the County Senior Championships, which were played from the new back tees (Black, which were the old white tees).

The course itslef looked very good, and the greens, tees and fairways were in perfect condition, as would be expected the day after the Club Championships weekend! The bunkers do seem to let the course down, as they have very heavy course orange sand in them, and so are more difficult to play out of than they should be. The two I visited were also of very differing depth/quality.
We were fed as part of our package, and the food was very good. Because it was such a hot day, the catering staff cleverly only brought food out as players came of the course, so it was kept fresh. Staff were all very polite and friendly.
I'm happy to say I'd play again, and hopefully I won't leave it for another decade before that happens.
