Great winter option
Truly excellent greens & still only minimal signs of winter. Very enjoyable round & a course that especially appeals as a Braid.Reviewer Rating

dog walkers everywhere
dogs are off the lease and roaming everywhere ... in front of the tee box just before you smash driver and pooing on the verges. Not really much of a golf course if this can't be controlled. Shame because greens are v good.Reviewer Rating

Great nick
Course in very good shape, minimal mud, dry with run in parts on chalk soil. Greens great, only one noticeable green with frost burns, everything in play(Round played: Jan 2022 - Score: 82 Handicap: 6.8)

Classy downland course - very enjoyable
This James Braid designed course has elements of some of his classic Scottish courses, playing fairly firm and fast even after a summer of rain. It is a tight course, bordered by thick trees and bushes so you need to be fairly straight off the tee but get the ball in play and you can probably score well. I was a bit wayward off the tee and was punished with lost balls. YOu can come off here feeling beaten up if not being sensible off the tee.Greens needed a cut but they were very consistent and steady. Definitely a course I will rush back to play. I had never played before and made some poor decisions with choice of club off the tee. Don't expect to play lights out first time you play here but some course knowledge will help with repeat plays.

Nice course
First time visit to Banstead Downs and enjoyed it. Some fun holes, especially the two driveable short par 4s but overall I felt the course is a little featureless and layout is a bit repetitive. However, the conditioning was quite good, with good fairways and greens. The interest comes from some steep false fronted greens, undulating fairways and some deep bunkers attractively framed by thick rough. I can imagine it gets pretty fast and firm most summers as it was pretty firm still with all the rain this year. Tempted to say it's not the most challenging course but I did play my best golf in years, so probably not an entirely reliable viewpoint.Nice pro shop, friendly enough atmosphere, fast paced round (midweek twilight), warm up nets and decent chipping and putting practice areas.
Crossing the road halfway round at rush hour was interesting to say the least!
Would return but plenty of other courses I want to try first. Good value at ?30 with a County card. Wouldn't pay ?50 though.
