Slowest round I have played in my life. No exaggeration. A shame because the course seemed nice. But walking off the 18th after 6 hours is unacceptable. The staff didn\'t take kindly to my comments about the pace of play. Summary : course way overplayed. Owners are just after the money. Shame because has a nice layout.

Not quite excellent

Played Easter weekend after receiving a text with a discount code for 20% off, easy no hassle online booking. The course itself is looking great, the Tee boxes are in good shape and the fairways were dry and cut, 2nd cut and rough also well managed and as well as being able to find wayward balls they were mostly playable, (except when the trees got in the way). The greens were not as good I accept its been pretty wet recently and going into summer they will recover and improve, but currently they're very slow and uneven (lots of bouncy puts) could do with a bit of sand and a roller. That being said I had an enjoyable round and will play again.

Played on Dec 31st after lots of rain and was a little surprised it was open but it was actuallyquite playable - lots of boggy areas but fairways generally okay and only had 3 temp greens due to some waterlogging. Tees were winter raised blocks which is fair enough to protect the normal tees.\Course as you\'d expect and I\'m glad I avoided the bunkers. Greens ran okay given time of year.\Pace of play was okay but it got bunched as groups were allowed to gather on the 1st tee ahead of time. Slow play ahead meant some waiting but short course meant it still wasn\'t too long. Be good to see how the developments turn out as they are digging up the 9 holer at the front.\The Stables food and drink was good afterwards. Just about worth the £20 given we had a coffee and bacon roll thrown in with that.\Would go back again in the summer when drier and on main tees / greens better etc to see how it shapes up.

its not a course i play often but i must say it as improved massively over that time on the condition and plans for the future look good, i can remember a long time ago the queues on the first tee were massive along with the wait on the 8th pie shop corner but as the course grows so do the green fees £20 for a muni and £25 for a buggy with no reductions for OAPs i think that would be the reason for a quiet day today, back next week ??

Great course but overcrowded

course in excellent condition, can't get a tee time between 9 and 1pm for love of money, saturdays round was so overcrowded had to queue at the 4th for 15 to 20 mins and again at the 9th for at least 20mins. Usually get round in 3.30 to 4hrs but was just under 5hrs

John

Excellent lush well looked after fairways and greens considering the recent hot dry spell followed by heavy rain. Maybe introduce some ponds here and there when they lengthen course bar pricey but enjoyable surroundings vast improvement from years ago when just a barn and pay as play put your ball in the old tube and wait your turn on the first tee lol

Slow !,,,

Lovely course with great facilities. At present, there’s lots of course improvements being made reducing it to a 9 hole course. My main compliant is a lack of a marshal on the first tee. Turned up 5 minutes before my allotted tee off to find 4 groups ahead of us. 30 minutes later we tee’d off following a group of FIVE !!
I’d travelled up from the Midlands to have 18 holes with my brother but gave up after 9. I reiterate,it’s a great course and green fees are cheap and it was a Saturday but tee times need to be adhered to.

More interested in weddings, bar and restaurant than golf - no signage or Comms to indicate winter greens in play, don’t reply to emails, in summer Beyoncé blasting across the course from outside bar - now charge £30 for weekend golf for the privilege - it’s an okay course but their ego think it’s better than what it is

Absolute belter.

This course is a belter, I've played 4 rounds here and fallen inlove with it. Testing in every aspect and a pleasure to play. I always finish a round here with a smile on my face. I tip my hat to the green keeping team too as I see them hard at it and they work hard keeping the course in beautiful condition. I highly recommend playing this mature, testing, well kept course. Keep it up Allerton.

Wow!!

Last played Allerton 50 years ago before I moved away?. and has it changed !! Very well kept, brilliant faculties and big time improvements are happening.
Not a difficult course, plenty of long par 3s & 4s and lots of trees. Like I said, it's a beautifully kept course close to one of Liverpool?s nicest parks ( Calderstones)
Get a late tee and then enjoy the massive outdoor screen with a beer. Happy Days.

Terrible condition course

I have played allerton, almost all of my golfing life - I’m sad to say I am considering finding a new regular course. Greens are terrible, divots aren’t replaced and the pace of play is dreadful. It’s a shame because I have always thought the course has a nice layout and friendly staff. On top of that, the prices have hugely increased for a course in such poor condition.

Not a course for autumn/winter

I write this with mixed feelings, today was the first time in 10 years I played at Allerton. In that time it's come under new ownership, and they've developed the clubhouse and surrounding buildings into something absolutely brilliant. Years and years ago anyone who played Allerton will remember the freezing cold club shop as well as the old room to hire upstairs, from that to what there is now it's simply stunning.

As for the golf course, after so long I was excited and optimistic to see if much had changed, in terms of layout and certain challenges, no, which pleased me, because to the eye it's a fabulous course.

That being said, and to be fair it's a difficult time of the year, but I would have thought that they would have improved the drainage, which is still non-existant. After 10 years and almost double in price of what green fees used to be, I was hoping that they may have developed a better course drainage, but when it rains Allerton golf course becomes a swamp.

We are in autumn now, and I know that Allerton is not alone with these types of issues when the weather turns but calling it a championship course is a pretty bold statement for any golf course.

Don't take this the wrong way but I feel the course would benefit from closing 1 day in the midweek, which would give the course a chance to settle, especially after weekend play when they're at their busiest.

I will return to this course, but not until the summer, when this course should be at it's prime
