A BOG

Course should of been closed on Sunday 13th December as totally unplayable. Tee Boxes like a Pigs Pen, fairways a bog and greens had puddles to putt through. And, they charge you to play!!!

A farmers field upgraded to a flapping golf track

Not impressed at all Ts where terrible fairway you didn't now where they fairway ended and the rough started bunkers we decided in our society to GUR them as so many stones and sand like concrete
And the greens where just the fairways mown shorter and full of weeds
You can tell I'm not impressed, will not be playing there again
Lovely ladies in the cricket pavilion that doubles for the pro shop though

Played the course on Sunday 19th October. Greens had been spiked (a fact we were not advised of) so did not run true. When we finished at 16:15, the club house had already closed so we ended up going to a local pub for a drink and a bite to eat. We paid £20 each for the round and I felt this was poor value for money. The semi rough needed trimming, and there weren't even any yardage markers on the tees. I think a lot of other people probably feel the same way about this course as there were very few people on the course. This is your typical farmland course. One last point. When I tried ringing to book a tee time on Saturday 18th October at 17:36 there was no reply until an answer phone cut in telling me that the course was closed on Monday 13th October!! Compare this course to Whitehills near Hertford and there is no comparison. Whitehills wins hands down on every level.

Wide open with lots of space so good for the high hanidcapper. THat's about the only good thing I've got to say though.
Fairways very long, in fact you could tell where they ended and the rough started.
Greens were a mess also.

It's a shame as it could be good value and with a bit of effort a half decent track

In need of some TLC

The course is in poor condition. The rough encroaches the fairways on the first eighth and ninth holes so much that it is almost impossible for those whose drives are short (such us over 70s) to clear it. The ditches are overgrown and any ball entering the rough or a ditch is almost impossible to find, let alone play. The fairways were recently sprayed to get rid of daisies; unfortunately a tractor was used for the spraying which has left indented tread marks on all the fairways which affect the bounce and run of the ball.

THe course is very hilly and has no major hazards. which makes it easy for beginers. its easy to get a game with no one really pushing you or slowing you down.
the down side to the course is the clubhouse. if you finish your game to late then you will be dissapointed if you want a drink or snack. two times this year its been closed when we got back and it was still day light once at 3pm and again yesterday at 5pm

The course has been much changed over the past year and a bit. The biggest problems this year are that the fairways are very narrow, particularly for the high handicappers, and with a fair way to go from the tee to make them. The grass immediately off the fairway is long and binds to the club. This means that even missing the fairway by even a short kresults in a 'hack' out rather than a proper golf shot. I'm all for making the course trickier and punishing really wayward shots. Small adjustments would make for a far better experience.

if you are looking for a course to learn on, this could be the one for you. Wide fairways and long holes make it a challenge. The course hasn't changed much since it was set up, but there is now a clubhouse instead of the portacabin.

Nice if you like a quiet course

Last minute decision to play on a Saturday, can always get on this course as it's normally not too busy. Course is suffering from lack of rain as are all courses at the moment. Greens are a bit tatty, but not too bad. Think ?30 is top end for this course though, but at least you can get on it at weekends.

Nice views and some challenging holes

My friend and I last played at Ash Valley in 2016 and we decided to try it again in November 2021. We have always regarded it as a physically challenging course and so it proved again. There are lots of ups and downs to the course with the uphill holes particularly challenging. It's a fairly long course too: 6469 off the yellows. The course is reasonably maintained: the fairways are well kept; the greens are interesting with pronounced slopes on many of them; the bunkers are not maintained well, however, though we did manage to avoid going into any of them!

The club seems more organised than when we last played there: there is an online booking system now; food is served (we had to go to the pub down the road before!) and this was very good. The welcome from the staff in the clubhouse was good and we both enjoyed our round.

Better after rain

Played the course three weeks ago and it was scorched. Greens were dry and pitted.
Plenty of work been done since then to the course after some rain. Only a couple of greens with pitting this time.

Some lovely holes. Half the bunkers require attention one way or another.
