Golf Course Distractions

Some play for a release from a stressful week at work, others for some healthy competition to improve their game. Whatever your motivation, once you step out onto the fairway it’s just you, your trusty golf equipment, your friends and the elements.

Or is it?  There are plenty of outside influences which are going to affect your day on the course, and not necessarily the watertraps.

Yourself

Ok, not strictly an external influence but let’s face it - no matter what level or handicap you play at - the frustration of being off your game can be your own worst enemy.  A couple of bad shots early doors can have a big impact on your performance for the rest of the round. We’ve all been there; primed for a great day out, feeling good, but slice a couple of early drives into the rough can set an infuriating precedent if you’re not careful!
Other people

Sharing a course with people of varying handicaps can be problematic in itself. It may be that you’re more of a novice  or just having a bit of a slow game, holding up the more experienced players as they watch your increasingly frenzied swings and tutting impatiently. On the other end of the scale, it might be that you’re just getting into your swing perfectly and raring for the next hole, but get held up for 20 minutes whilst someone fruitlessly swings back and forth smacking clumps out of the ground.

The weather

We’ve all heard them; “You saw the wind take that! That was perfect for the fairway until that freak gust of wind took it onto the M25” or “that green is just slippy because of the rain, I would have been perfect for an easy put and now it’s in the rough” Lame excuses? Perhaps - compensating for the weather is an important part of anyone’s game. However, it’s undeniable that a quick shift in the weather can put a real spanner in the works for your concentration if the heavens suddenly open.

Your golf clubs

Keeping your beloved clubs in the best possible condition can be an important It goes without saying that your clubs are going to be pivotal to your day. If you’re still sporting those old rickety clubs you’ve had for years, it might be time for an upgrade. You’d be amazed that the impact it can have on your game.
