Play-Off Decides Club Championship 2011

By: | Mon 07 Nov 2011

Aspiring pro, England’s Jessica Wilcox, who plays off plus-three, won the ladies championship on the fourth hole of the play-off against Welsh international, Katherine O’Connor, who plays off plus-one. Both girls had played 36 holes over C. Asia and C. America on 5-under to force the dramatic play-off. Germany’s Ursula Wetzel, who won the championship on an incredible five successive occasions from 2006 to last year, was in third place.

The men’s championship went to Roger Dew, for the fourth time. Roger previously won the event in 2000, 2001 and 2006. He won by two from fellow Englishman David Rogers and defending champion David Krajny from the Czech Republic.
The stableford champions were also decided. The men’s category up to handicap 12.4 went to La Cala resident and U.S. native Alan Jewett with 71 points. The men’s higher handicap section was also won with 71 points by Philip Lunggren, from Sweden. The Ladies stableford winner was England’s Linda Jackson.

All the winners were fulsome in their praise of the green-keeping staff and management for the efficient organisation of the Members’ Festival Week competitions and the sponsors of the championships, Prosegur, Guardian Wealth Management; Bankia and Ranchos Reunidos.

Since 1989, la Cala resort has developed into the biggest golf and leisure destination in Spain with 3x18 holes golf courses, a luxury five star hotel and spa, sporting facilities plus a David Leadbetter Golf Academy. The resort is ideally located in the heart of the Costa del Sol between Marbella and Mijas and only 30 minutes from Málaga International Airport.
