Estonian Course makes it into Top 100

Just four years after opening, the Estonian Golf & Country Club, Estonia’s finest golf course, is celebrating after making it into Golf World’s prestigious top 100 European courses list.

The 7,066-yard, Lassi Pekka Tilander-designed course is a new entry into the list at 95, a position which delighted the club president, Mait Schmidt.

Schmidt said: “Our thanks go out to all at Golf World for placing us in this prestigious list. Golf is in its infancy in our country, and there are only eight courses. For the Estonian Golf & Country Club to receive this recognition will provide a huge boost, not just to everybody here at the club, but also to everyone working within the golf industry in Estonia. It shows we are not being ignored.

“It remains our intention to be regarded as the best course in the Baltics in time, and to continually improve our ranking within Golf World’s significant ratings.”

Golf World’s description of the course said: “The course boasts official pre-historic burial sites, restored stones walls and huge old oak trees. It meanders its way through virgin forest all the way to the coast and Jagala River. There are plenty of elevation changes here as the height difference n the championship course measures 40 metres.”
The Estonian Golf & Country Club’s rapid rise to prominence in Golf World’s top 100 should come as no surprise as it was recently awarded the honour of hosting the 2009 Omega Mission Hills World Cup European Qualifier event.
The top three qualifiers were Canada, Wales and Scotland with the Canadian pairing of Graham DeLaet and Stuart Anderson claiming top spot.
