Tracking Scores & Handicap

Can I track scores whilst on the course and does the app work whilst offline ?

Yes the app has been designed to be used on-course, post round in the clubhouse or at any time and will function in offline/airplane mode or when no data access is available.

Assuming that the app has access to the course and scorecard data, see below for information on non UK courses, then the app will function without data access in offline mode.  Data access is required to upload and save your round to the Golfshake score tracking system.

Tracking scores on course will be up to the individual golfer to ensure this does not break at competition rules.

How do I add a round to track my scores, stats & handicap ?

From the 'round' page click the + icon Add round icon in the top right corner to enter the round set-up.  From here you can select game format (stableford, gross, nett), set the date (time isn't required), select the course and then add players.

You either add a round for just yourself or other members of your group.  Selecting the player will then ask you to select the tee played and also the stroke allocation for the round.

On the round page what do the colors and up arrow icon mean ?

The colors shown denotes the tee played or being played ie yellow, red, blue, gray denotes white.

Any round showing the up arrow icon denotes a round that has been submitted and uplodated to Golfshake.  Those without are only stored in the app and if you logged out of the app you would lose this data - so ensure you upload to save.

What do the dots mean on the score entry page ?

The dots denote the stroke allocation for each hole and thus assist in calculation of the stableford points.

In game data

Can I track a round for 9 holes ?

Yes you can track scores for 9 holes however handicaps are only tracked over 18 holes.  The system also defaults during the round set-up for the round stroke allocation to the playing handicap for 9 holes this should be adjusted to 50%

Can I change the score card and strokes information after setting up a round ?

How does the handicap work and can I make a manual change ?

Every round uploaded includes an option to track your handicap or not.  The handicap is updated and maintained through the Golfshake score tracking website.  The current exact handicap is displayed on your 'me' profile page.

At present handicap changes can only be made via the Golfshake website and accessing the handicap page where you can make manual adjustments or recalculate your handicap.

Can I delete and edit rounds and does this affect my handicap ?

Yes you can edit any round and delete rounds from the 'round' page and long pressing for deletion confirmation.  However similar to the website no changes are made to your handicap therefore if you edit or delete you should visit the Golfshake handicap to use the 'recalculate' handicap tool.

How does the 'strokes' work for a round ?

During the round set-up the strokes will default to your playing handicap if your handicap is maintained by Golfshake and similar to the website this can be changed. The strokes is primarily used to calculate strokes for each hole based on the stroke index and then the stableford points.  The round strokes is independent to your handicap and allows a player to play off a different handicap during a round ie 3/4, 7/8 or if you are playing a scratch match against a friend.

What courses can I select when setting up a round?

The round setup allows you to search for courses within the app, the app preinstalls UK courses see below for downloading other countries, which you can search through, view local courses or view saved courses.

What do the stat definitions mean ?

How do I track my GIR (greens in regulation stats) ?

The system calculates whether you hit the green in regulation based on the score you enter and putts recorded.

How do I use the bunker hit feature ?

The bunker option is to identify if you hit a greenside bunker the Golfshake system will automatically calculate whether you recorded a sand save based on the putts entered.

Note: In the rare circumstance that you thin out of a bunker on to the fairway then chip back on and 1 putt the system does inaccurately calculate a sand save.  This is currently under review.

Tracking Scores for Multiple Players

Can I track scores for additional players ?

Yes you can track scores for other members of your fourball, players are added via the round setup and can be your existing Golfshake friends, managed accounts or from your contacts (which creates a managed account).

What are managed accounts ?

The term 'managed accounts' refers to any player whos scores you track and maintain online without them having need to access the Golfshake website.  These can be members of your fourball group or even society members that you wish to track and maintain scores and handicaps for.

Where do I create managed accounts ?

You can create managed accounts from the golfer page which is where you managed accounts will show along with your golf buddies.  Managed accounts can also be created from the round setup page from the player option.

Adding players

How many players can I track scores for ?

Whilst we have applied the concept of tracking scores by a player in a fourball you can actually track up to 40 players from one round.  This provides an option for tracking society events.

When I track stats for multiple players the player selector keeps changing ?

This is by design and down to how you are using the app.

If you start on hole one and record scores the next button will always default to the 1st player to start the score/stat entry for the next hole.  However if you had quickly looped through the holes before actually scoring the app treats this as adding a score for a player for those holes.

The issue is then present if you went back to a past hole or used the previous button.  The logic applied in the app is that if you were on hole 17 for player 3 and wanted to check their scores using the previous button would cycle through player 3 and like wise using the next button would cycle through this player for consistency.
