Course review : Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club
by David Preston on 29th September 2011The Crown Golf Society had there September competitio at Stoneleigh. A very nice course, nicely set out & some difficult par 3 holes to say the least. A great course for a society day as it does give you a chance if you're on form. Some very good scores from the lads. Highly recommended course. some tricky holes with good course manage, emt a must. Decent venue throughout. Overall well worth a wack!

Course review : Ramsdale Park Golf Centre
by David Preston on 30th August 2011The Crown Golf Society took their members here for their August competition. What a stunning course this is. Beautiful panoramic views, perfectly manicured greens, undulating & quick. The back nine is something to behold, huge inclines, just keeping your balance is tough let alone trying to play golf! This is by far the best golf course we have played this year. The staff were warm & welcoming. An extremely highly recomended venue for any golfer. Thank you!!

Course review : Purley Chase Golf Club
by David Preston on 10th May 2011The Crown Golf Society had their May competition at Purley. The course was extremely hard due to lack of rain & in extremely windy conditions this made it a very tough test for all. Generally I would suggest this course could do with a little TLC. The bunkers were some of the worst I have ever seen & the course overall required some attention. A decent layoput with some very nice holes, It could have been so much better, shame! A little expensive given the state of the course, although the staff there were very friendly & helpful. Maybe another time this review would have been better, but try harder plaease Purley!

Course review : The Warwickshire Golf Club
by David Preston on 27th March 2011The Crown Golf Society took 28 members to the Warwickshire 26th March 2011. We all played The Kings Course. A tough course, long walks, I ache like hell now. Not many high scores, with only 1 player under par. A decent track & a good test although very long in places. Greens not so good & inconsistent in places. Not clear directions to each hole at times. But overall I do recommend this course if you fancy a good test & a bloody long walk!!

Course review : Hunley Hall Golf Club
by David Preston on 28th October 2010We took some of the lads from the crown golf society here for our summer weekend away. what a fantastic venue, twenty seven holes converted into four different courses with all kinds of tests for your skills. Typical links conditions can make it tough. Beautiful surroundings & views. The staff were absolutely top drawer, food excellent, you really could not get any better than this, the price was also amazingly cheap. This to me is the best place for a weekend away, there are no negatives, just endlesss positives. Visit Hunley hall, what a brilliant golf venue!!!!!!!

Course review : Humberstone Heights Golf Club
by David Preston on 28th October 2010Humberstone heights is a very good pay & play course. Overall a decent test of your golfing skills, if your having a good day you can shoot a very low score here. A good set up with some challenging holes. there are also some holes that if you keep it in play a birdie is on the cards.

Course review : Springwater Golf Club
by David Preston on 28th October 2010We took the crown golf society anstey here for on of our monthly competitions. An excellent golf gourse, superb layout. a really solid test of your golfing skills. Keep it in play & you have a chance to score well, often having to play strategically to have a good approach to the greens. Greens generally very consistent with many borrows o read. A very warm welcome. A very heghly recommended venue for a round, would go back any time.

A very good course in excellent condition. A very tight knock round.
You need to play strategically to benefit round staverton.
A very tight leaderboard on a tough day & I won with the highest winning score
All season, which tells you it's a tough one.

by David Preston on 28th June 2010The crown Golf Society Anstey had our fourth competition of the year here. The staff were friendly, welcoming & helpful. The bacon rolls were the best we had had.
The golf course was one of the best we had played. fast greens, undulating & hard to read in some cases.
a phenominal view, in beautiful surrounding. A real test of anyones golf skills, which on a very hot day felt like climbing mount kilamanjaro.
A very highly recommended venue. Worth the money for a top top course! The Course

Course review : Orton Meadows Golf Club
by David Preston on 25th April 2010The Crown Golf Society Anstey Leicester had their second event of the season here. We had a good turn out of 19 members. A very warm day, great for golf! The course is short on yardage especially on the back nine. However you have to play strategic golf as this course is by no means easy. Majority of the time keep the big stuff in the bag. Personally i was hitting nearly 270 yards with five wood which is un heard of. This course is well worth a round. The greens were a little poor though & front & back nines had completely different speeds. They do need to work a little on the greens throughout the course has it can be very frustrating trying to putt without consistency. It was extremely busy & took over five hours to play due to back log. However the negatives set aside it is a lovely course & a good old knock around with alot of thought required. Would suit a higher handicapper as a god lerning curve. Thank you Orton Meadows!

by David Preston on 10th April 20109 par fours on front nine. Some holes longer than they look. A pretty good course overall. Excellent value for money. Greens had just been aeriated, which meant very difficult to get a true roll. But in retrospect a good old knock, well worth a visit!

Course review : Greetham Valley Hotel, Golf & Conference Centre
by David Preston on 27th March 2010The Crown Golf society had its first event of 2010 here March 27th. We played the Valley Course, which although short on yardage, with the prevailing wind was a tough old round. Fantastically designed holes, somewhat breathtaking in a beautiful surrounding. Twenty blokes had a cracking day & we were all warmly welomed. Food was great too which wasn't on the plate for long! Highly recomended venue which needs a lot of thought & planning for each shot.

Course review : Birstall Golf Club
by David Preston on 17th November 2009a lovelly golf course with some cracking holes. greens are superb & can be quick. undulating fairways sometimes spoil a perfect drive! on a good day the members can be the most warmest welcome you can have. on a bad day they can also be the most stuck up toffee nosed so & so's you will ever meet. Birstall golf club needs to get a little bit more with the times. you should not have to be a knight to play golf!! having said that if you do get the chance to play here the course will not dissapoint!

Course review : Maywood Golf Club
by David Preston on 17th November 2009a decent golf course with some excellent holes. i do think that they have crammed a lot in here though. somme tees are playing directly over greens. one of the greens is like a pitch and putt course. winter greens a little early. however please do notthink this is a bad course. it is in fact very very good. greens are very true and good speed. course in general is in good condition. its a cheap round. some of the holes are absolutely fantastic. it is worth a game, put it this way i had a blinder on back nine with five pars on the trot all of which were reasonable holes, no easy holes here! give it a whirl!

Course review : Silverstone Golf Club
by David Preston on 23rd September 2009a lovelly golf course in superb conditions. good facilities and we were walmly welcomed by the staff. we took eighteen members & guests here from the crown golf society in anstey, leicester. the weather was spot on and so too was the golf course. i highly recommend this course. it is not overly long or too short, there are several holes which you have to think about strategy. greens like lightening but very true running. once you have sussed them out, normally after five holes, its a top drawer putting surface. they do however change some of the holes without much information which can be confusing, but thank you silverstone for a great day out!

Course review : Thorpe Wood Golf Club
by David Preston on 23rd August 2009A very good course in excellent condition. a very tough test as there are some very long par four holes. may lack a little character and would suit better to longer hitters. this is not to detract from it being a top pay and play course and is well worth a visit. good and well stocked pro shop and a very warm welcome from all of the staff. we had a good day out and it was a decent test. give this course the thumbs up!

by David Preston on 21st July 2009A fantastic couse set up with lovelly lush greens. The Crown golf society took fourteen members and a guest there for our july tournament. Although the weather was appaling it did not spoil an absolute gem of a golf course. staff were friendly and welcoming. most of all we all had a great day. i highly recommend this course, its quite short but there are some very tricky holes. it really is a good test and you need to think carefully about the shot you are facing. get yourself down to Cherwell Edge its a cracking round!

Course review : Whiston Hall Golf Club
by David Preston on 21st June 2009the crown golf society held a tournament for its members here. 17 of us went out. this is an extremely well designed course. it may not be long but it certainly has bags of character. However the greens were of poor quality, inconsistant and very slow at times. Again they had lots of character borrowing in all directions. The major problem realy lies with the fact there are no course planners available. there is no information to help you on the tee. some of the holes dogleg ninety degrees and it is impossible to know where you are supposed to be going. Also there are no tee markers to let you know where the next hole is. A very warm welcome by the staff and overall a decent round for anyone. all it needs is that bit of attention and this course would get full marks! Just to add another note there is no pro shop or anywhere to get balls, tees or accessories, so make sure you are well kitted up prior to visiting. In all a highly recommended golf venue with amazing views and a mind bending set up. well worth a visit at a great value price!!

Course review : Trent Lock Golf Centre
by David Preston on 31st May 2009the crown golf society had tornament here. a tight course made for a tricky course. the greens were quick but due to many hazards around them it made it almost impossible to stop your ball has ground was too hard. all of us had a good day with the only complaint being hard greens and above all this would have been much more playable with a course planner which unfortunately Trent Lock could not provide? a fantastic pro shop, brilliant facilities, what a shame just a simple course planner made for a bit of a struggle. with so many hazzards and tight plays you need to know what is in front of you to score reasonably well!! get this sorted and it would be a great course for any golfer.

Course review : Beedles Lake Golf Club
by David Preston on 16th April 2009after being a member here in the late nineties i was excited to see how the course had matured! i have to say there have been many improvements to the course. the greens are still one of the best around, very consistent, good speed. the fairways were very good although the ground suprisingly hard. over all a decent test of golf, a fairly long treck aroung but fair. as usual for beedles a very warm welcome from all. the professional here Mr Sean Byrne is the most friendly and helpful i have ever met. i recommend this course to anyone. a good crack, beautiful surroundings the best welcome and if you want to bring the mrs absolutely top draw food available and good value! this review is after i lost my singles match too!

by David Preston on 9th September 2008a championship course is an understatement!! expect to play around ten over your normal score on this course. a fantastically beautiful surrounding for a golf course. the greens are an unbelievable test. fast, big borrows in fact if your putting is a little off, a bloody nightmare! quite a long trek of a course, but some wonderful holes. you really need to think about strategy on this course. overall the best course i have played in Leicestershire. this on its day ranks up with the brabazon at the belfry, in fact i would say better!! get your self a round on this course if you want to see a real tough but wonderful game!!!!!

Course review : Six Hills Golf Club
by David Preston on 20th February 2008The coarse has been lengthened considerably on the back nine holes. This has made it far more of a challenge. This coarse is still good for the beginner / high handicapper, but also retains a degree of difficulty. the reception at Six Hills is always warmly welcoming and the food is very good too! overall for 19 quid at the weekend this is one the better all round municipal courses in Leicestershire. You can play on the real green stuff pretty much all year round, altough they do use tee mats in winter . Well worth a visit!
