My Reviews

Course review : Westerham Golf Club

Played 27 holes today (front nine twice) and thoroughly enjoyed every single hole. Every hole gives you something to think about but is not over the top difficult. Greens and fairways in excellent condition all the way round. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Cost a little more than I usually pay but probably worth it. Will definitely be going back.

Course review : Stoke by Nayland Golf Club

I played both courses over 27th and 28th March and enjoyed them both. Played the Gainsborough on the first day which was a good test but not over the top. The greens weren't great and reading the previous review it appears that this has been the case in the past. Considering that the club had an open day on the same weekend I would have thought that the greens would have been given a good roll but they were very bumpy.

I then played the Constable on the second day and the greens were the same, maybe slightly better but not a lot. There were also a lot of temporary mats to tee off from which was quite surprising, and a little annoying (no mats on the Gainsborough). The course itself though was enjoyable to play and if the tee boxes and greens were sorted out would be a very good course indeed. Plenty of shots over water, including the first and the last and a good mix of holes.

Would like to play again if I knew the tees and greens had been sorted.

The facilities were really good though with excellent food, a nice bar, pool, steam room, jacuzzi and snooker room which I made use of. Good place for a golf break.

Course review : Redlibbets Golf Club

I really liked this course even though I had an absolute mare going round it. There are more trees than I have ever seen on a golf course but the layout is great. The fairways are quite narrow and you have to be pretty straight to get round. The greens were a little bit bumpy in places but I put this down to the club getting them ready for the new season. They are fast and very undulating.

I used the Green Free vouchers and so we only paid £22.50 each which I think is good value, I don't think I would pay £45 full price to go round it though. Get the vouchers and go and have a round.

I stopped in the clubhouse afterwards and grabbed a sausage and egg baguette which was very nice and reasonable price too. They had a fairly good selection on the menu to choose from.

All in all I enjoyed the round, apart from the score, and I will be going back.

Course review : Mannings Heath Golf Club

I played the Kingsisher on Sunday 18th April and the Waterfall the following day. Both courses are a challenge but the Waterfall is definately a much sterner test. The courses were in very good condition but I'm told that in another three weeks or so they will be at their best. We stayed in Fuller's Cottage which is 20 seconds from the clubhouse on the club grounds. The cottage has four queen size bedrooms and makes for a very comfortable stay. The staff could not have been friendlier and the food was spot on. A thoroughly enjoyable couple of days and will definately be going back.

Course review : Lullingstone Park Golf Club

A lovely course set back in the hills which provides a stern test. The course plays quite long so I would recommend a buggy. Some nice open fairways gives confidence but some of the holes can still be a bit tricky.

Course review : Southern Valley Golf Club

A nice links style course with a fair breeze coming off of the river. This course has a good mixture of holes and would provide a test for any golfer. I have played courses with better greens but as a pay and play venue they are a lot better than some out there. Unfortunately the clubhouse is only a temporary building and so this could be improved but the food is nice and the service is good. Don't forget to use the phone on the tee of the 9th to order your half-time bacon sandwiches!

Course review : Woodlands Manor Golf Club

Even though there was a mixture of rain, sun, sleet and heavy winds I really enjoyed playing this course. The variety there is in the different holes keeps the round interesting from start to finish. There are five par threes which should help towards a low score and there is nothing over 500 yards (off the yellows) which should also help. The course was in excellent condition and the greens were superb as well, even with the bad weather. Unfortunately the bar and restaurant were closed by the time we finished the round (17:30) so can't comment on the service but I would definately recommend having a round (watch out for the water on 13).
