Mickelson hoping practice makes perfect

By Thomas Rooney on 09-Feb-2012

Phil Mickelson is always a fans favourite at Augusta and he will be looking to add to his three green jackets when the 2012 US Masters gets underway in April.

The 41-year-old Californian first won the US Masters back in 2004 – when he beat Ernie Els to the prestigious title by one shot – and then 'Lefty' has followed that up with wins at Augusta in both 2006 and 2010. Fans of Betfair golf should bear this in mind.

All eyes will be on Mickelson when the elite of world golf head to the Augusta National Golf Club, but there could be concerns about how the four-time Major champion seems to be struggling for form in the early weeks of 2012.

He finished 49th at the Humana Challenge and then missed the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open, meaning Mickelson's form is likely to be a huge talking point in the coming months unless he turns things round soon. Those looking for Golf Betting Tips will be wondering if he is a spent force.

The veteran has indeed only won one PGA Tour event since his victory at the US Masters in 2010 – but Mickelson has the ability to turn on the style at Augusta and admits he is "excited" about the upcoming year.

He remains undeterred by his record fortunes and is hoping to get back on the winner's podium sometime soon.

"My practice sessions have been really good," said Mickelson. "My putting feels terrific and I felt it was the last physical part of my game that needed some work. Now I've just got to get it from the practice tee to the course."

Augusta National Golf Club have invited 104 players to compete in the tournament, of which 92 are expected to compete – a number which will include six amateurs and 14 first-time participants.
