Probably My Best Back Nine Of The Year

By Ian Poole on 10-Nov-2010

Played today in my usual Wednesday fourball in very cold , bright and breezy conditions (2 club wind). After paring the first nothing much happened until the 13th when I then had 3 pars in a row and ended up coming back in 41 for a total of 86, 2 under my handicap of 16. So all in all I was really pleased with todays round, only 1 3 putt to drop a shot on the 6th.

A Good Round

By Ian Poole on 27-Oct-2010

I was really pleased with my round today. Although I made only 3 pars I was striking the ball well, and my putting and chipping were solid. A few putts lipped out and a few drives went behind trees costing me a few shots. So in summary with a bit of luck my 87 could easily have been an 82. All in all really pleased with an enjoyable round in very blustery conditions (approx 1-2 club wind).

Monthly Medal

By Ian Poole on 11-Oct-2010

Played in the monthly medal yesterday. It was really blustery with a 2 club wind.I was quite pleased with my front 9, shooting a 46 (one over my handicap). The 10th at Whitehills is a 450yd par 4. Into the wind I hit a good drive followed by a good second shot, so I had just 50yds left to the green. Selecting a wedge I then proceeded to SHANK my ball into thick rough. I then dropped a provisional in case I couldn`t find my ball and did exactly the same again. The result - an 8 - on a par 4 hole where I was just off the green in 2! I then played the next 8 holes to my handicap, but the damage had been done - up another .1. What a frustrating game - I played well for 17 holes and yet still have my handicap go up.

A Frustrating Round

By Ian Poole on 25-Sep-2010

Yet another frustrating round today. I was striking the ball well. however I had 3 3 putts amongst my 36 putts. Also I twice took 5 shots on par 3s. As a result I shot 90, 2 over my handicap of 16.

Nike SQ Dymo Driver

By Ian Poole on 13-Sep-2010

Really pleased with my driving today - I only missed 2 fairways and both of those were in the first cut. Putting also good - only 31 putts. Hence I shot 86 - 2 under my handicap of 16. Now I just have to improve my GIR stats.

A Strange Round

By Ian Poole on 08-Sep-2010

A very strange round today. No pars, but 2 birdies. On the front 9 I only missed 1 fairway. However, on the back 9 I only hit 1 fairway. On the front 9 no bunker shots. However on the back 9 - 5 bunker shots. The overall result - 88. Spot on my handicap of 16.

First Round For Ages

By Ian Poole on 29-Aug-2010

First round for a few weeks, and talk about rusty, I shot 94 (par 72 course) playing off 16. I didnt manage a single par, and also took 19 shots over the 4 par 3 holes. I now wont be playing again for a few weeks so no chance to quickly put the damage right

Benefit of a new putter

By Ian Poole on 23-Sep-2009

Just lately Ive been driving and stricking the ball really well. However Ive been let down by my putting. Well today a bought a new putter with a heavier head than my old putter. What a result, the first 9 holes were used getting the feel of the new putter and as a result I shot 2 over my handicap of 16. Come the back 9 however I shot a gross 40 - 4 under handicap. I now cant wait for the weekend and another 18 holes with the new beast. </p><img src="file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Lounge%20Computer.PUTER/My%20Document

Another frustrating round

By Ian Poole on 11-Mar-2009

Yet again I was swinging and striking the ball really well. The only problem being an inability to get up and down when within 25yds. I just cannot chip close enough for 1 puts. The answer I suppose is a visit to the driving range to practice my short game. Oh well, there`s always next week I suppose.

A Frustrating Game

By Ian Poole on 18-Feb-2009

Played today in the pleasant Spring like sunshine. On the front 9 I couldnt do anything wrong and carded 41 ( 5 over par). Then on the back 9 it was almost as if someone had flicked a switch and nothing went right. I ended up carding 46 (10 over par). Its so frustrating - 1 minute I was playing brilliantly - the next I was desperately scrambling for bogeys. Even though I shot 87 I feel so frustrated - it should have been a score in the low 80s, not the high 80s. Oh well there`s always next week!
