The Crown Golf Society had their second event of the season on Saturday April 28th at Stoke Albany Golf Course near Market Harborough. The weather was very wet in particular on the front nine. It was also very blustery, & wind direction changed often in the middle of your swing! Also with the amount of rain we have had recently the course had taken a bit of a drenching. This made conditions tough on a course which with the exception of a couple of holes was relatively open & straightforward. I’m sure we would have all loved to play this one in the summer as it had a lovely set up & could have been even better for scoring. However after saying this, the lads did come in with some excellent scores. Again the top was tight. Another good booking from Captain Dan Pegg, a decent turn out of fifteen still meant for the usual banter. Bingo cards are starting to get filled in nicely. Anything for a line? Congratulations to First Place with 38 points Scott Hunt, Second Place with 36 Points Steve Hipwell & Third place with 35 Points Andrew (Dan) Dare. The Longest Drive & Nearest The Pin both went to Steve Hipwell, with the Nearest The Pin In Two going to Scott Hunt, so well done to both of them. A warm welcome to new member Robert Haynes who played his first competition, finishing just outside the prizes. A good start Bob! The next competition is at Whiston Hall Staffordshire on Saturday May 26th. Let’s hope for better weather. This is also a very good & strategic course, so bring your thinking caps, you will need them. Please can all members get their names down & deposits / subs paid as early as possible to aid with organizing the event. Thank you.

THE CROWN GOLF SOCIETY HAD THEIR FIRST COMPETITION OF THE SEASON AT RUTLAND COUNTY GOLF CLUB STAMFORD DESPITE THE RECENT WEATHER IT WAS A VERY COLD DAY WITH A STRONG BREEZE JUST TO ADD TO THE DIFFICULTY. A VERY WELL SET OUT COURSE, QUITE OPEN ALTHOUGH THERE WERE PLENTY OF BUNKERS TO CATCH YOU IF YOU WERE OFF LINE. GREENS WERE VERY QUICK BUT TRUE ROLLING WITH LOTS OF UNDULATIONS TO MAKE PUTTING A LITTLE TRICKY. A GREAT FIRST COURSE BOOKED BY OUR NEW CAPTAIN DAN PEGG. SOME VERY GOOD SCORING BY THE MEMBERS THROUGHOUT. WELCOME TO ANDREW (DAN) DARE & GRANT KELSEY ON THEIR FIRST COMPETITION SINCE JOINING.
