Golfshake.com 2008 review

By Golf Shake on 01-Jan-2009

Well this was the year that Tiger was eventually stopped in his tracks but not by some new kid on the block (watch out 2009 for Anthony Kim) or improved play by the other leading players in the world but unfortunately by injury.  This made it all the more remarkable when he went on to win the US Open whilst battling with the injury.

Player of the year must go to Padriag Harrington with back to back wins in the Open and a 2nd majors win this year with the PGA.  Unfortunately this form and that of his team mates wasn't held during the Ryder Cup which Europe lost and handed back to the USA team, and yes they were a team, for the first time in 9 years.

But here on golfshake.com we have had just as much success and ups and downs.  The first event of 2008 was held at Donnington Grove Country Club and saw 40 players battle it out on a tough and fantastic course with the eventual winner scoring 36 points (no band*t$ here on golfshake).

This year saw the rematch and the 2nd year running of the North vs South at Devere Belton Woods which was once again won and retained by Team North.  The 2009 match down South is now being planned for April and will the South field a team strong enough to take the cup away from the North for the first time ?

2008 also saw the introduction of the golfshake.com Order of Merit which ran over a series of 8 events throughout the year and required 2 event entries to qualify.  Despite a hard fought final event in exceptionally difficult conditions the winner was Martin Millichip scoring combined scores of 77.

Thanks to those who took part in the events throughout 2008 and we look forward to seeing you in 2009 and those that didn't get chance to attend we hope to see you in 2009.  2008 we played some different and rewarding courses notable Donnington Grove Country Club, Devere Belton Woods (fantastic 18th finishing hole for the North vs South) Marriott Hollins Hall (for the walks), Gloucester Golf Club and Staverton Park (for the weather).

The sites continued to grow throughout 2008 and established it's self as the no.1 online golf community and the place to go to talk about all things golf whilst still providing the core service of tracking scores, providing golf handicaps and improving your game.  On average those tracking scores throughout 2008 here on golfshake.com have seen a reduction of 3 from their handicaps.  We also introduced the offline handicap card which is proof of your golf handicap and a great way to play new courses.

The golf course directory is now the place to go to find out about new courses you are going to play.  Now with over 10,000+ golf course reviews and details on 30,000 global golf courses our golf course section is the no.1 place to go on the internet.  Not only showing information from us but the information and reviews from the people who know, the people like you, other members from here on golfshake.com

So here's to the New Year and what 2009 will bring.  Watch out for some new improvements to the site, some exciting new features, 2009 events and a whole lot more.

Thanks from all the team and hope you had fun in 2008 and here's to good golf for 2009 !

Play well and swing good!

New golf group and golf society section launched

By Golf Shake on 31-Oct-2007

You may have noticed that last week we installed the first phase of the new and improved group/society section with an improved navigation system, more features and a dedicated group/society mini site.

The group section is a great way to run a society online and for society administrators to manage and maintain all aspects of their society including golf handicap tracking, golf competitions and society leaderboards.

It's even great if you or not a formal golf society but just a bunch of golf buddies wanting to keep in touch, compare your scores online, interact on the message board, check out handicap and see what's going on with image and video uploads.

Be sure to check out the newly updated help files for further information.

You can see some information and screenshots below.

The golf group/society provides access to :

  • Private group message board
  • Group news and blog
  • Group image uploads
  • Group video uploads
  • Group logo and description
  • Dynamic home page showing latest information from your group
  • Member list and information
  • Member report and stats overview
  • Member stats report in PDF format
  • Group/society competitions and events
  • Group/society leaderboards
  • Group/society results and player history
  • User comparison analysis (upto 4 players)
  • Virtual leaderboard (based on points, FIR, GIR, putts)
  • Administrators can also run all aspects of a society online
    • including managing accounts and members online
