UK club golf handicap system changes

Having just read some interesting information at the Scottish Golf View website on a recent press release by CONGU looks like some much welcome changes are due to the UK golf handicap system.

At present handicaps are pretty much tied around home club competitions and in some instances does not really show a players accurate level if they play lots of different courses. This can result in some golfers only playing to there golf handicap on the very odd occasion through the year and on the flip side some golfers having a much higher handicap than their ability due to the limited number of submitted scorecards used for handicap purposes.

So I would expect it's a much welcome announcement that from 2008-2011 supplementary scores can be used for golf handicaps.

'The section on Supplementary Scores has been included to assist golfers who, for whatever reason, play in few or no competitions each year, by allowing them to return cards outside competitions for handicap purposes.'

It's also interesting to hear that 9 hole scores can be taken into consideration at the discretion of the affiliated club. 

This is great but at the end of the day this only applies to club golfers but what about the 100,000s of nomdic non-club golfer who enjoy their golf without the need to be tied to one particular club.  There is also no announcement on handicap increases which still seem to be restricted to 0.1.  I guess over time further changes will be made and some day the UK golf handicap system will represent systems in place across Europe and the US which seem fairer and possibly more accurate.
