News letter june 2011

By Dave Evenden on 03-Jul-2011

Please find a copy of the June News letter

Firstly on behalf of Pete and myself we would like to welcome the members that have joined us since holding our first event at Rusper Golf Course. We would also like to thank the rest of you for supporting the event, which was a great success although the course did prove a little difficult which was reflected in the scores.  It was agreed at Rusper that the winner of a society day would have their handicap cut by 2 and the runner up would be cut by 1.
For those of you who didn't know, Pete Rodman won the event, Stuart Cullom came runner up and Lewis Webb came third.  The Longest drive was Lewis Webb and Nearest to the Pin was Stephen Hall, well done guys.

We are starting the Surrey v Middlesex competition at Hurtmore this weekend. We are aware that there are likely to be uneven numbers from each county, this means that the team with the least players will determine how many scores will be taken into consideration from the other team. (e.g. if Middlesex has 9 players and Surrey has 14, only the top 9 scores from Surrey will count towards the overall score, thus making the competition equal). This competition will be open to full members only.

Our next event looks like it will be held on the 30th July at either Wycombe heights at a cost of £30, (this will include a bacon roll and a tea/coffee & golf), or Blue Mountain at a cost of £31 (including bacon roll tea/coffee round of golf and ham egg & chips afterwards) or £36 (including bacon roll tea/coffee and a round of golf with a BBQ afterwards).

We are looking at starting a competition within the society called the S&M Cup; this would run like the F.A Cup. The matches would be drawn and you would be given a 4 week period to play the match. This will be at an agreed course between the two players, however if we are holding a society day that month, the match could be played with in that day. The entry into this cup would be free to full members and at a cost of £5 for guest members, with a cup being presented at the end of the season. Scoring would be on a Stapleford points system, (You would be able to hand your cards in if you are unable to score your own cards). Please let us know if you would like to take part in this competition as we would like to get this underway ASAP.

Also we are considering a weekend of golf at Cretingham golf course (Suffolk) near Ipswich. This would be in early October, arriving Friday lunch time playing a round of golf Friday pm. The deal is for unlimited golf so you could play Saturday am/ pm and Sunday am (this is down to the individual.) We would be staying in Swiss style cabins. The cost would be around £85 each.  Please beware there is a clubhouse and bar on the golf course but not a lot else.  The local village has one/two shops and of course a superb public house. Nothing has been booked yet as we would need to know how much interest there would be.

We are still looking at setting up our own web site that can show more information about the society and its events. We would be able to give you all the updates on the S&M Cup and how you are doing in the overall standings plus hopefully a lot more.

Also we know it seems a long way off, but Christmas is just round the corner. We would like to know your feelings on whether to hold a Christmas meal/disco. We would like opinions on where and when this should be held, and also whether this event should be just for members and partners or should be opened up to friends as well.

Now for the unpleasant part we understand that you may not be able to commit to events early, but please try to understand it takes a lot of mine and Pete’s time to organise things and the last thing we want to do is keep chasing you.  Please check emails and answer text messages as soon as possible, with a yes or no, or if not with an “I’ll get back to you” so that we know you are aware that we need a response. We must thank the members that do reply to event invites, emails and text messages in plenty of time, it’s a great help and really appreciated. Although we are growing in numbers, we are still looking for new members so pass the word. That’s all for now.

Dave and Pete

NEXT EVENT

By Dave Evenden on 08-May-2011

We are looking at our second event and the general feeling seems to be that Pine Ridge would be a good choice of course, the date we have penciled in is either the 25th of June or the 2nd July. It would be nice to have some feed back before booking this next event, so let us know what you think and can you make it.  (sooner rather than later)

In the mean time please remember that your opinions are important to us and help us decide on the route the society takes, it was good that everyone stayed and had a drink after Rusper and ideas and a lot of friendly banter exchanged.
