Slaley Hall Voted Best Golf Hotel/Resort in the North of England

By: Golfshake Editor | Mon 08 Feb 2016

Slaley Hall has further strengthened its place among the country’s leading golf resorts after being voted ‘Best Golf Hotel/Resort in the North of England’ for the second year running at the 2016 Today’s Golfer Travel Awards.

The popular venue in Hexham – part of QHotels, the UK’s largest golf resort operator – was once again the first choice of readers of the UK’s best-selling golf magazine in the top annual consumer travel awards.

Jonny Mould, director of golf at Slaley Hall, said: “Everyone at the resort is very proud to have won this award again. It makes it extra special that this honour is voted for by golfers, and is acknowledgement for all the hard work that everyone has put in over the last 12 months.

“It’s been another fantastic year for Slaley Hall which included celebrating our 25th anniversary, and this accolade further confirms our position  as the leading golf course in north-east England.”

Set in 1,000 acres of Northumberland moorland and forest, Slaley Hall is a magnificent four-star hotel in an elegant Edwardian mansion.  It features two challenging championship courses – the Hunting and the Priestman – which have played host to no fewer than 18 European Tour and European Senior Tour events, with the likes of Colin Montgomerie, Lee Westwood and Retief Goosen among the list of winners.

Often dubbed ‘The Augusta of the North’, the 7,000-yard, par-72 Hunting, which was designed by Dave Thomas, offers lush sweeping fairways, streams, lakes, towering trees and banks of rhododendrons. Complementing its sister course is the Priestman, which opened in 1999 and sits on the west side of the estate, with panoramic views of the Tyne Valley and some daunting water features for players to negotiate if they are to score well.

And golfers can enjoy an array of fantastic savings and benefits on one-night, two-round breaks  at the resort in 2016 with QHotels  ’2016 Group Golf Breaks Early Bird’ promotion.  Bookable until February 29 for groups of 12 or more, prices start from only £85 per person including one night’s dinner, bed and breakfast, 36 holes of golf and a 20 per cent discount off all drinks.

As well as celebrating its landmark 25th birthday in 2015, other notable achievements for Slaley Hall included playing a leading role in helping QHotels launch its QFairway membership scheme – the country’s most flexible membership offering up to 50 rounds of golf for only £375 – including the chance for members to play both its renowned courses.
Named AA Hotel Group of the Year in 2014/15, the multi-award-winning four-star QHotels golf group offers tournament and championship-standard courses in 10 unique resort locations across England and Scotland.
