Hollinwell (Notts) Golf Club Confirmed As New Venue For Mid Amateur Stroke Play Championship

By: Golfshake Editor | Thu 21 Jan 2016

scotish amateurThe Mid Amateur Golf Tour (MAGT) have confirmed that Hollinwell (Notts) GC will host the new British Mid-Am event taking place between the 22nd and 24th May 2016, with the Nottinghamshire layout replacing previously announced venue, Ganton GC.

The event will be 54 holes of stroke play over 3 days and will be open to all male golfers of any nationality aged over 35 years on 23rd May 2016 and with an official, active handicap of 9.4 or less.

“We have been repeatedly asked by our players for an international event to take the place of the British Mid-Amateur which was taken off the championship rota in 2007 by the R&A.” Said Jason Morris, Golf Director at The Mid Amateur Golf Tour.  “The English Mid-Amateur Championship, which is run by England Golf, used to be the only well-established event in the UK but in recent years we have added the Welsh Mid Amateur Championship and Scottish Mid Amateur Championship and we now feel the time is right to re-introduce a new international event.”

A high class field is expected and entrants are welcome from all over the world and in time it is hoped that the event will become the highlight of the Mid Amateur year in the UK.

“We are hoping that over the next few years the 4 Mid Amateur Majors (The English, Welsh, Scottish and British) will act as a showcase for the considerable talent in the over 35 ranks and it is hoped that they will be used as part of the selection process for the Concession Cup.” Added Jason.

As a new event, “The British” as it will be referred to, will not be a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR)  event for 2016 under WAGR’s new rules, but will be for 2017.

There are also sponsorship opportunities for organisations - any interested parties should contact the offices of The Mid Amateur Golf Tour at their base in Whitstable in Kent.

Full details are available on the recently re-launched MAGT web site (www.midamgolf.co.uk)
