TaylorMade launch PSi Irons

By: Golf Shake | Tue 29 Sep 2015

TaylorMade Golf has long prided itself as being the leading brand in terms of iron innovation, and it looks to maintain that reputation by the introduction of their exciting new PSi™ and PSi Tour irons. Players of all standards have long been forced into selection an iron with either attractive sound and feel or distance.

With PSi, however, TaylorMade has blended the optimum combination of form and function, through an iron that delivers a rare balance of immaculate and classy design with tremendous feel aligned with the desired increased ball speed and distance.

In achieving these innovations, TaylorMade have brought the finest technology to the more adept players in a manner that also benefits those average golfers who are seeking to get the most out of their irons and games.

TaylorMade’s new product Dynamic Feel System (DFS) was implemented by engineers in the design of these technologically advanced irons. Comprised of a HYBRAR™ blend compression damper and a multi-material cavity badge, the DFS reduces vibration across the club face without forfeiting any ball speed. This – aligned with newly designed heads and tungsten weighting in the longer irons and forged short irons – has created a set that is dynamic in its approach to deliver superior sound and feel.

Also new to the revolutionary PSi iron is an intriguingly fresh Speed Pocket, which is a cut-thru slot that allows for more effective performance, which generates in faster ball speeds for shots that have struck the lower end of the club face. This feature compliments the Face Slot Technology, which had been debuted in 2014 with the RSi irons. These additions ultimately allow for more consistent speed and distance for shots that aren’t quite struck off the centre of the club.

This improved consistency was key in guaranteeing that this latest set of irons delivers on the hopes and demands of higher standard golfers.  The ultra-thin face of the clubs (less than 2mm) aides the process of ensuring that the compact iron produces incredible distances. In terms of trajectory and ball flight – two concerns of the more accomplished player – the 360° undercut expands the face and lowers the centre of gravity on the iron to generate the maximum in speed, spin and launch angle.

“In creating the PSi, we wanted to make sure we understood the true needs of the better player before deciding how best to approach its design,” said Tomo Bystedt, Director of Iron Product Creation. “The total performance package had to meet or exceed the player’s expectation on look and feel while giving them performance they had never seen before. The consistency, workability and distance are something we think will be a revelation to all better players.”

TaylorMade have also introduced a progressive spec package, which is designed to ensure that each club in the PSi set delivers on its promises and offers optimal levels of performance. Length of blade, top-line thickness and offset increase progressively throughout the set, providing golfers with the confidence that each club will produce exactly what they are needing.

PSi Tour

TaylorMade have also announced the release of the PSi Tour iron, which has been designed and created for the leading players in the world game. Consisting of forged 1025 Carbon steel, precision milled face slots and the revolutionary Speed Pocket, this iron also features a more compact head size and tour-inspired shaping and suitability for the best of ball strikers. In a departure from the regular Psi, the Tour iron possesses a thinner top-line, with less offset and a narrower sole allowing for a higher trajectory with the longer irons. We can expect the Psi Tour to be the company’s most popular iron model on the PGA Tour in 2016.
