Field Set for Faldo Series Final in Germany

By: Golf Shake | Mon 28 Sep 2015

The Faldo Series has announced an impressive field of golfers who will travel from multiple countries to the nineteenth Grand Final which tees off on September 29th-October 1st.  66 of the world’s most talented young amateurs from 18 countries will join Sir Nick Faldo at the A-ROSA Scharmützelsee resort in Bad Saarow, Germany for the World Amateur Golf Ranking event.

The players will need to be at their very best on the world famous Faldo Course Berlin, which promises the sternest of tests. The resort complex also comes with a reputation so impressive that it has been chosen as the official venue for Germany’s 2022 Ryder Cup bid.

“We are incredibly excited about bringing the Grand Final to Berlin, the players will certainly saviour their experience here,” commented Six-time Major Champion Faldo. ‘It is a great leap forward from the first Faldo Series Germany Championship back in 2010 and my sincere thanks go to the sports major governing bodies; The R&A, European Tour, Asian Tour, PGA Tour and the PGA of America for once again making all of this possible.”

“It is thrilling for A-ROSA to host an event for young golfers like this,” said A-ROSA Golf Director Vanessa Herbon. “We’re honoured to be involved in Sir Nick’s global efforts to develop the game and we’re eager to host the best Faldo Series Grand Final yet. We wish the competitors the best of luck.”

Competitors aged 12 to 21 will contest for the title of Faldo Series Champion over 54 holes on the Faldo course at the renowned A-ROSA Scharmützelsee resort in Bad Saarow, Germany. With the field divided into five age-categories, three boys and two girls will each receive a trophy and an exemption into the tenth Asia Grand Final in 2016. The leading boy and girl will also be invited to play in a professional Tour event.

Off the course players will spend time with Faldo and his personal coach Keith Wood. Juniors from local golf clubs have also been invited to participate in a clinic with Sir Nick as part of an initiative to help grow golf at the grass roots level. Hopefully they will gain inspiration by attending the golf master class clinics with Faldo and Keith Wood and by watching the competitors in action first-hand.

Recognised as the only global amateur series for boys and girls, the Faldo Series was established in 1996, expanding to Asia in 2006.

Today, 40 Faldo Series tournaments take place in 30-plus countries worldwide, touching thousands of golfers each year. Past winners include Major Champions Tseng Ya-ni and Rory McIlroy, who took his tally of professional Major titles to four with his wins at the 2014 Open Championship and US PGA Championship.
