International field line up at Scottish Mid Amateur Stroke Play Championship

By: Golf Shake | Mon 28 Sep 2015

scotish amateurPlayers from all over the UK and Europe will tee-up at The Dukes Course at St Andrews between the 2-4 October 2015 to compete in The Scottish Mid Amateur Stroke Play Championship, which will be contested over 54 holes.

The field includes previous English Mid Amateur winners, past and present Welsh and Scottish Mid Am winners and a host of elite players with over 40% of the field having a handicap of 1 or better. Last years winner Paul Moultrie from Royal Troon will also be defending the title he won at The Fairmont last October.

“This is the 4th year we have run the Scottish event and we are delighted with the entrants, not only in numbers but quality and geography. To have players travel from all over the UK and Europe shows that not only is the Mid Amateur game flourishing but people are prepared to travel for good quality competition.” Commented Jason Morris, Director of Golf at the tour.

“There were a few people and organisations that said the Mid Amateur game was in decline and no-one was bothered with it but with nearly 30 events on the schedule next year and 5 WAGR events we think there is plenty of scope for growth.” Jason added.

The Mid Amateur Golf Tour is open to male golfers aged 35 years or over from any country and play at many of the UK’s top 100 golf courses such as Rye, Royal St Georges, Sunningdale, Woodhall Spa, Royal North Devon, Turnberry, Sheringham, Littlestone, Ashridge, Hankley Common, Liphook and many more. There is also a year- long Order of Merit with a complimentary finals day for the leading players which this year is at Hollinwell (Notts).
