Czech Masters preview, picks & analysis

By: Golf Shake | Mon 24 Aug 2015

EDDIE PEPPERELL will be looking to fulfil his massive potential at the Czech Masters in Prague. The Englishman played brilliantly in The Open at St Andrews, which was just the latest in a number of great finishes in 2015. It is only a matter of time before Pepperell steps into the winners' circle and he will feel that he has a great chance this week.

He is a young man who plays with a smile on his face and would be a popular winner.

Twelve months ago Bradley Dredge turned his career around with successive runner-up finishes in Denmark and the Czech Republic. Having lost his card in 2012, he was playing on a limited exemption and those two results secured his card for the current season.

Once again, he played well in Denmark this year and has had a decent season. He heads to the Czech Masters hoping to go one better this time.

"Those two weeks were massively important,” said Dredge, who once again heads to Prague on the back of a fine performance in Denmark, having finished tied sixth last week. “When you don’t have a full card you really have to make the most of the tournaments you do get into, so it was very pleasing that I managed to do that. I was playing well and my game was in great shape, so I wasn't surprised to find myself in contention. I have a good feeling about returning there."

Everybody remembers that Jamie Donaldson struck the winning shot at the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles last year. However, were it not for his performance at the Czech Masters then he probably wouldn't have made Paul McGinley's team. He knew that he had to win to secure his place, and that is exactly what he did.

Donaldson missed out on the FedEx Cup playoffs when he chose not to play in the Wyndham Championship and after a disappointing season it is a huge surprise that he has chosen not to defend his title. .

A decent field also includes another Ryder Cup player, Victor Dubuisson. Like Donaldson, the Frenchman will be far from satisfied with the way the season has played out thus far, but there are sufficient big-money tournaments left for Dubuisson to turn things around, and there would be no better place to start.

Look out too for another big week from James Morrison, who is enjoying the year of his life, and is rapidly climbing the world rankings. And it would be no surprise to see last week's winner, David Horsey, in contention again.

After a slow start to his professional career, Matt Fitpatrick has now secured his card for next season after finishing second in the Omega Masters. He is 41st in the Race to Dubai and received a massive confidence boost from that performance. He turns 21 next week and would love nothing better than to celebrate his birthday with his maiden win.
