Made in Denmark Preview, Picks & Analysis

By: Golf Shake | Mon 17 Aug 2015

THE European Tour returns after a two-week break, with Marc Warren defending the quaintly-named Made In Denmark at Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort.

The Scot has enjoyed a good season and will return to Denmark confident of making a successful defence. Nobody on European Tourthe European Tour possesses a sweeter, smoother swing than Warren and he has finally started to believe in his own ability and stopped being so hard on himself. His confidence is high and he has great memories of this event.

However, Thomas Bjorn, the local hero, may have something to say about that. He was the first Dane to win on the European Tour and the first from the country to play in the Ryder Cup.

He may be getting a little long in the tooth these days but he remains a truly ferocious competitor, capable of very low scoring. With Bjorn, the key is the short stick - if he holes putts, the rest may be playing for second place. There is a large Danish contingent and the pick of them may well be Soren Kjeldsen, who has rediscovered his best form this year. Like Bjorn, he is a feisty competitor and is very difficult to beat when he gets his nose in front. If he makes a good start, he will be one to watch.

And that also applies to Thorbjorn Olesen, who is one of the most underrated players on tour. Several players in the field have a point to prove, including former Ryder Cup players Edoardo Molinari and Nicolas Colsaerts. Not so long ago, both men appeared to have the world at their feet, but both have struggled. Molinari has had injury problems and Colsaerts tried and failed to make it in America. The big-hitting Belgian remains a prodigious talent who just needs one good week to get him going again -and this could be it.

We are getting towards the sharp end of the season, with many players starting to lose sleep over whether or not they can earn enough money to keep their playing privileges for 2016. It is a time of the year when missed putts and missed cuts start to really hurt, and it is also a time when one good finish can turn everything around. Scott Jamieson is such a player, and is far too good to continue struggling as he has done.
