Troon Signs Agreement for New Championship Venue in the UK

By: Golf Shake | Mon 25 May 2015

Troon, a specialist in golf course management, development and marketing, has signed an agreement to help develop and manage the exciting new golf development at Rossington Hall in Yorkshire, England.

Under the guidance of Troon , the luxurious Rossington Hall, which sits within 250 acres, has grand ambitions of joining Europe’s elite golfing destinations as a European Tour host venue.

Located in the heart of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, Rossington Hall, already an established wedding, dining and events venue, will feature an 18-hole championship golf course with adjacent 9-hole academy course, each designed by Neil Coles. Situated within the estate, which housed the original Hall in the 18th Century, the course will feature an accompanying clubhouse and leisure facilities in a manner that will pay homage to its Victorian heritage.

The venue joins an illustrious list of award-winning golf properties in the Troon portfolio in the EMEA region that includes the likes of The Grove, England; Chateau d’Augerville, France; Abu Dhabi Golf Club, Abu Dhabi; Lofoten Links, Norway; and The Els Club Dubai.

“We are thrilled to add Rossington Hall’s golf development to our collection of courses in the UK and look forward to delivering the exceptional golf experiences that Troon has become renowned for in the years to come,” commented Jon Schauder, Director of Business Development, Troon EMEA. “This is an exciting era for Rossington Hall, the community and all of its partners; sitting squarely in an established golf and leisure market, it has all the necessary stakeholders to make it a resounding success. For Troon, with golf and tournament golf playing such a central role in the venue’s extensive redevelopment plan, it represents our continued alignment with those who will take our sport forward in the coming years.”

The new golf development forms part of an extensive restoration program put in place by the current owners since 2011. Seven existing bedrooms, each decorated to reflect the history of the Hall, feature the perfect blend of Victorian elegance and modern luxury. Further expansion is due to take place at the stately home, which will deliver additional hotel rooms and further dining facilities, from its numerous state rooms.

“With the proven track record and business credentials of both the European Tour and Troon Golf, we couldn’t be better placed to create an unparalleled golf experience here at Rossington Hall,” commented Gary Gee, owner of Rossington Hall on behalf of Rossingtton Hall Golf Developments Ltd. "We are pleased to have both of them as part of the team, Troon are renowned for delivering world-class golf facilities accustom to hosting leading golf tour events week-in, week-out - whether on the European Tour, PGA Tour or their affiliates. Troon understand the aims and goals of our facility, we look forward to working with them closely in the development of Rossington Hall and welcoming golfers as soon as possible.”

The addition of golf has been outlined in a planning application for the project, supported by Welcome to Yorkshire - the local authority working with the tourism industry, local authorities and the wider business community in Yorkshire – and will be submitted later in 2015.

The selection of Troon by the ownership readily acknowledges Troon’s ability to develop sustainable golf experiences, including its expert agronomy team, which will seek to offer a course that offers a premium golf experience to Troon’s exacting standards.  Troon’s position as the industry leader for delivering the finest playing surfaces means its facilities regularly host the world’s leading tours, with Rossington Hall joining Troon’s international collective and the likes of 1932 Open Championship host, Prince’s Golf Club; London’s country estate and AMEX World Golf Championship host, The Grove; and 10-time Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship host, Abu Dhabi Golf Club.
