White Box Validation from Tour Stars for Titleist Pro V1 Prototypes

By: Golf Shake | Mon 22 Dec 2014

Titleist golf ball loyalists and Brand Ambassadors have recorded early successes with new Pro V1 and Pro V1x prototype golf balls following ‘white box’ seeding across worldwide professional tours

Tour seeding of new Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x prototype golf balls began in October at the PGA Tour’s Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas. Since then, they have been trusted for outstanding successes after being put into play by well over 100 players including Jordan Spieth, Adam Scott, Bubba Watson, Ian Poulter and Rickie Fowler.

The Titleist Golf Ball R&D team is an eclectic mix, made up of chemists, physicists, mathematicians, computer scientists, engineers and technicians, as well as PGA Professionals and turf management specialists. Due to their work, Titleist owns the industry’s largest portfolio of golf ball intellectual property with more than 1,000 patents. Since 2010, Titleist has been awarded nearly 50 percent of all golf ball patents issued in the United States. New Products have to be better than what has been before, not simply different.  The white box signifies tour level validation with the best players in the world. However, feedback is also provided by elite amateurs, club Professionals and members of Team Titleist during the validation process ensuring that the product is validated at every level of the game.

Titleist Tour Validation

True validation for the performance excellence of the new Pro V1 and Pro V1x prototypes has been achieved with victories for Titleist golf ball loyalists across worldwide professional Tours. Bubba Watson became the first player to win with the new Pro V1x prototype in November at the WGC-HSBC Champions in China; the first week the American had chosen to tee up with the new prototype. He clinched victory in dramatic fashion, holing a 60-yard bunker shot to secure his place in a playoff, before holing a 20 feet birdie putt for the win at the first extra hole.

The following Sunday, Titleist Brand Ambassador Charley Hoffman won the PGA Tour’s OHL Classic at Mayakoba with the new Pro V1x prototype, before two record-breaking victories from fellow Brand Ambassador Jordan Spieth who entered a tremendous run of form with the new Pro V1x prototype, to claim the Australian Open and Hero World Golf Challenge in spectacular fashion.

Since seeding began, a wealth of other players have put their trust in the new prototype golf balls across the world, including Adam Scott, Ian Poulter, Hunter Mahan, Bill Haas, and Padraig Harrington who claimed his first victory since 2010 at the Indonesian Open with the new Pro V1x prototype golf ball. Many other Titleist golf ball players were given the new prototype balls to continue to test with over the Christmas break, including Lee Westwood, Henrik Stenson, Luke Donald, Jamie Donaldson, Brooks Koepka and Victor Dubuisson to name but a few.

Players have commented about their excitement at being given the chance to validate the new product, including Thomas Aiken, “When we see the White Box product on the range it is really exciting, as Titleist  are the experts in golf ball technology and performance and you can be certain the product has been improved in some way.”

Titleist White Box validation at the highest level of professional golf continues to set the standard as more players trust Titleist than any other golf ball.
