Golfers Bag Dream Ticket to Morocco After Grand Final Success

By: Golf Shake | Thu 23 Oct 2014

Two lucky golfers are celebrating after taking first place at the prestigious Morocco 100 Grand Final - and bagging the prize of an all-expenses paid luxury golfing holiday to the exotic kingdom of Morocco.

The Morocco 100 event reached its finale this week, when the winners of men's and women's regional qualifying events - held at dozens of courses the across the entire UK over the summer - came together for the Grand Final at The Oxfordshire.

The event was organised by the Morocco National Tourist Office (MNTO) to celebrate the first 100 years of golf in Morocco.

As part of their prize - which includes a stay at a beautiful five-star luxury hotel - the winners will sample some of the kingdom's 29 outstanding golf courses, as well as some of the myriad cultural and historical attractions Morocco has to offer.

Paula Hill, 60, from Midhurst, West Sussex, was the victor of the ladies event, and had earlier qualified for the showpiece final after winning the qualifying event at her home course of Petersfield Golf Club.

She took victory with 37 stableford points - one clear of runner-up Millie Fawsett, 49, from Lewes, East Sussex - and also scooped the longest drive and closest-to-the-pin prizes.

Her male counterpart, Sam Black, 29, from West Byfleet, Surrey, was the winner of the men's section with an impressive 42 stableford points - including five birdies around the tricky Oxfordshire layout - pipping runner-up Greg Tack, from Hersham, Surrey, who finished with 40 points.

The runners-up in both the male and female sections of the final were also awarded the prize of free accommodation at a five-star hotel in Morocco.

A delighted Hill said: "I have never been to Morocco, and nor has my husband - who has christened himself my ‘caddy', so he can come on the trip too - so we're very excited.

"Morocco seems a beautiful country, full of rich heritage and of course, some fantastic golf courses, which I will look forward to playing as part of my prize.

"The Morocco 100 event itself was a huge success - the course was in fantastic condition, the weather was kind, the location was stunning and most of all, we were all playing for a host of great prizes.

"Luckily for me, I played well enough to win. I'd like to thank the Morocco National Tourist Office for putting on such a fantastic event and for the amazing prize."

A spokesman for the MNTO said: "The Morocco Golf 100 Series is our way to celebrate our first 100 years of golf in the Kingdom of Morocco.

"We'd like to extend our warmest congratulations to Paula and to Sam on some fantastic golf at The Oxfordshire.

"We look forward to offering them and their guests the very warmest welcome when they arrive in the beautiful, unspoiled golfing paradise that is Morocco."
