Costa Daurada Unveils 42% Growth in International Rounds

By: Golf Shake | Tue 21 Oct 2014

One year on from hosting the world’s premier golf travel trade event, the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM), local tourism officials from Costa Daurada have reported a 42% surge in international golf rounds to date in 2014 when compared with the same period for 2013.

The figures detail organic growth from the region’s traditional markets; France, Scandinavia and the UK as well as new tour operator clients from central European markets; Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Netherlands and further afield from Russia and Canada.

The tourism board outlined the importance of showcasing the rich array of golf courses, hotels and restaurants in the surrounding area to 1,400 delegates and scores of journalists during the 2013 IGTM.

“It is clear that tour operators’ first-hand experience of the region has been the key to increased sales – simultaneously enhancing the awareness and the reputation of our product offering.  The growth figures are extremely encouraging,” commented Octavi Bono, General Manager of Costa Daurada Tourism Board.

“Going into this year’s IGTM we are confident in solidifying further business leads, and Costa Daurada’s position as an international golf destination.”

Costa Daurada tourism officials will be on hand to meet buyers from stand L112 at this year’s IGTM.

One of golf’s most diverse destinations, the region’s offering is spearheaded by European Tour Qualifying School (Stage 2) host venue, Lumine Golf & Beach Club and former home of the Volvo Tour’s Catalan Open, Bonmont Golf Club.

A further assortment of 18-hole layouts and family-friendly pitch & putts make up the range and feature noted golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Jnr., and golfing greats Greg Norman and Bernhard Langer.

If not for golf, Costa Daurada is certainly best known for its cuisine: Michelin-starred restaurants and top-rate tapas are not hard to come by in a region distinct for its culinary talents.  Festivals throughout the year in the region’s cuisine capital Cambrils, celebrate the unique flavours produced locally.

Costa Daurada is home to a range of accommodation from ancient, 5* boutique hotels set within hillside vines to 4* contemporary hotels within easy reach of the region’s golf courses.   To save on rental cars, a golf shuttle service available through Costa Daurada Golf Association transfers golfers between airport, hotel and golf courses.

80 miles of blue flag beaches, the historical appeal of the provincial capital, Tarragona, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Europe’s tallest rollercoaster at PortAventura, contribute much to Costa Daurada’s growing appeal for golfers seeking a memorable holiday.
