New Town and Country Memberships Offer Best of Both Worlds for London Capital Club Members

By: Golf Shake | Fri 17 Oct 2014

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the London Capital Club, it has joined forces with the historic and iconic Brocket Hall Estate to offer exclusive, new, town and country membership packages.

Combining the urban elegance of the London Capital Club with the rural retreat of Brocket Hall, the town and country memberships are designed to be flexible and allow members to relax, unwind, socialise and entertain in unrivalled comfort and elegance.

September marked 20 years since the erstwhile Gresham Club – inaugurated in 1843 and named after the founder of the Royal Exchange, Sir Thomas Gresham – was renamed the London Capital Club. The name change did not, however, affect the club’s reputation for excellence and personal service in the City of London, and it retains, to this day, the most worthwhile aspects of a traditional City club, while reflecting the demands of modern business life.

The new town and country memberships afford access to the club’s Walbrook members’ restaurant; the private members’ bar – with admission for up to four guests; substantial reductions on room hire; a monthly table hosted by the general manager; an extensive social calendar; and various additional benefits with other organisations across London.

The country element to the membership is provided by Brocket Hall Golf Club, set in 543 acres of the Hertfordshire estate’s beautiful and historic 18th-century parkland. Famed for its close links to two British prime ministers, Lord Melbourne and Lord Palmerston – after whom the resort’s two courses are named – Brocket Hall’s glamorous mansion has hosted an extensive list of royalty, celebrities and well-known dignitaries, and each guestroom bears the name of a notable figure who has either lived in, or who has been closely associated with, the house.

Lord Melbourne, a close friend of Queen Victoria who often stayed at Brocket Hall during her reign, and Lord Palmerston both resided at the famous venue in the 19th century while looking after the affairs of the nation. More recently, the late Baroness Thatcher also chose the great hall to write her memoirs.

The par-72 Melbourne Course is situated in magnificent surroundings, crossing the River Lea several times before a memorable finish in front of the hall after a short ferry ride to the 18th green. In contrast, the Palmerston Course is a challenging par-73 woodland layout, with rare Hornbeam, Scots and Corsican pine and 300-year-old oak trees creating a memorable test for professionals and amateurs alike, and is ranked in the latest ‘Top 100 Golf Courses in England’ poll by Golf World.

And the new membership not only gives access to the two renowned golf courses, but also use of the Palmerston Golf Academy, with unlimited balls; preferential rates on golf tuition; complimentary venue hire; preferential booking rates across the estate, including at the award-winning Auberge du Lac restaurant, Watershyppes Restaurant, accommodation in the Melbourne Lodge and Brocket Hall.

The memberships – which are available in both individual and corporate formats – also entitle the holder to complimentary membership of the International Associate Clubs (IAC), allowing reciprocal privileges to more than 250 clubs worldwide, and social membership for the spouse or partner.

David Griffin, the regional membership director at Palmerston Hotels & Resorts, said: “It is essential these days that this style of membership is not rigid in its structure – there are far too many demands on people’s time nowadays.

However, there is still a desire to be able to benefit from the lifestyle such a membership affords and we have made the packages as desirable and flexible as possible.

“For example, there are transferable and non-transferable memberships; five or seven-day memberships; life memberships; and, in the corporate arena, one and three-year memberships – for up to 28 individuals – and five and 10-years for up to 56. The corporate memberships, in particular, are hugely flexible, as we understand that every business will have individual needs. ”

Individual town and country membership packages start from £4,000, while corporate memberships are available from £15,000 inclusive of VAT.
