New Els Club Teluk Datai, Malaysia one of the most stunning ever built

By: Golf Shake | Mon 25 Aug 2014

Golfers worldwide have been given fresh impetus to sample one of the finest golf course redesigns in recent years following the release of a stunning new image collection by The Els Club Teluk Datai, Malaysia.

Situated on the tropical island of Langkawi, the layout, shaped by South African legend and four-time Major Champion Ernie Els, has received widespread acclaim from golfers, the media and industry officials alike.

Indeed, the recently-unveiled Troon-managed venue was named the ‘Best Golf Course’ at the 2014 Asia-Pacific Property Awards, setting it apart as the region’s No.1 destination for the game.

Revealing the incredible setting and the imaginative design characteristics which epitomise Els’ distinguished golf course architecture portfolio, each image showcases The Els Club Teluk Datai as one of the world’s most intriguing re-designs.

Delighted to be able to reveal outstanding aspects of the course for the first time, newly-appointed Senior Vice President of The Els Club Malaysia, David Townend, said: “The Els Club Teluk Datai has already been hailed as one of the world’s most beautiful settings, and we felt it was only right that we should gather a portfolio of images to do it justice.

“Golfers thinking of making the trip to Malaysia will now be able to see for themselves why our course comes so highly recommended.

“In his design, Ernie Els has achieved something truly spectacular. Nestling between the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea and stunning, centuries-old natural rainforest, complete with views over the Mat Cincang mountain range, I cannot think of a more memorable place to enjoy the game.”

The Els Club Teluk Datai is the first of three Malaysian Els Club projects and represents the government’s drive to develop a world-class portfolio of attractions to elevate national tourism through its investment arm Destination Resorts and Hotels (DRH).

This ambition has also seen the growth of the internationally-renowned The Datai Langkawi. A epitome of luxury, The Datai has become one of Asia’s most sought-after and award-winning premium hotel and resorts. Each room, suite and villa enjoys the embrace of the lush virgin rainforest and offers stunning views from private verandas of the breath-taking Andaman Sea, providing a variety of memorable experiences and completing the ultimate golf experience.

Work is also nearing completion on Els’ second and third Malaysian championship courses, currently under construction on Desaru Coast in Malaysia’s southernmost state of Johor, and will open for play in 2015 and 2016, respectively. Alongside luxury hotels and exciting leisure and entertainment attractions, as well as The Els Club Teluk Datai, each property will play an integral role in realising DRH’s vision for the enhancement of golf and travel in Malaysia.
