North Course Set to Impress at World Golf Awards

The major renovation of Quinta do Lago’s North Course is one of the most exciting developments in European golf in 2014 and the new-look layout is set to be one of the stars of the show when the inaugural World Golf Awards are held at the prestigious resort later this year.

The new three-day event will take place in the Algarve from November 14-16 and one of the highlights will be the chance to play on the newly-renovated North Course, which is due to reopen in October.

Phase two of the redevelopment work, which has been designed by renowned American golf architect Beau Welling in collaboration with 2014 European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley, was completed on the course last month (May), with the layout set to match the existing first-class golf facilities at Quinta do Lago.

Among the changes taking place, all greens, tees, bunkers, irrigation and drainage systems and cart paths are being rebuilt using the latest state-of-the-art technology.

Welling said: “The new North Course will rival the very best in the region and people will be blown away by what they see.”

Industry leaders from around the world are set to converge on Quinta do Lago in November for the 1st World Golf Awards, which will allow guests to enjoy some of the world-class facilities on offer at the famous resort.

Voting for the awards opened on June 20 with fierce competition expected in a number of categories including Best Golf Destination, Best Golf Hotel, Best Golf Course, Best Golf Tour Operator, and Best New Golf Course.

Quinta do Lago could have double reason to celebrate with its renowned South Course having been nominated for the ‘Best Course in Portugal’ award and Portugal as the ‘Best Golf Destination’, and all the winners will be crowned at a lavish gala ceremony at the Conrad Algarve on Saturday, November 15.
