Posted by: Golf Shake on Thu 26 Jul 2012
FootJoy Press Release
FootJoy continued its imperious form in the Major Championships in 2012 with victory at The Open Championship this weekend, to remain well on course to claim the Grand Slam. By capturing the famous Claret Jug, the winner followed in the footsteps of Masters Champion, Bubba Watson and US Open Champion, Webb Simpson by choosing to compete in the all-around excellence of the market-leading brand’s FJ ICON golf shoe. On the PGA Tour, brand ambassador, Scott Stallings claimed his second tour title at the True South Classic wearing FJ Sport and FJ PureTouch glove.
In what was an eventful week, played over the extremely challenging Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club, FootJoy prevailed on an afternoon packed with drama. The conclusion of play on Sunday saw an impressive 10 players in the Top 10 and ties trusting the unrivalled comfort, fit and styling of FJ golf shoes, including second placed FJ loyalist Adam Scott competing in the performance-infused FJ Sport golf shoes and World #1 Luke Donald in his FJ ICON’s.
FootJoy also maintained a dominant share of the shoe and glove counts at The Open Championship. An impressive 83 players, 53% of the field chose to stride the fairways of the famous Lancashire links in FootJoy shoes, with the nearest competitor accounting for just 17% of the field. FootJoy also led the glove counts with 54, 35% of the field trusting the superior grip and comfort of FJ’s array of products.
On the other side of the Atlantic, brand ambassador Scott Stallings shot a 4-under 68 in the final round to win the True South Classic. It was his first PGA Tour victory of the year and the second of his burgeoning career. Stallings raced up the leaderboard after shooting back-to-back 64s in the second and third rounds, which gave him a one-stroke lead going into the Sunday. In the athletic performance of the FJ Sport shoes and the advanced grip and fit of FJ PureTouch glove, the 27 year-old American finished with a 24-under par tournament record total. Capping off a momentous week for FootJoy, Espen Kofstad finished eagle, birdie, par to claim his maiden Challenge Tour victory in the Doubletree by Hilton Acaya Open in Italy. Wearing FJ Sport, the 24 year-old Norwegian moves up to 11th position in the Challenge Tour Rankings and in touch of a full European Tour Card for the 2013 season.
“To have one product win the first three Major Championships of the year is an incredible achievement,” commented Russell Lawes, European Marketing Manager - FootJoy. “The FJ ICON is regarded as the premier shoe in golf and this has undoubtedly been reflected by all three winners trusting its superior fit and classic styling to claim golf’s most prestigious titles. To end the week as the #1 Shoe and Glove at Royal Lytham & St Annes and secure yet another triple win weekend continues a truly magnificent year for FootJoy.”
Whether it is the all-round excellence of the FJ ICON™, the Xtreme Platform Stability of the all-new XPS-1™, the reliability and consistent performance of DryJoys Tour™ or the sports performance of the FJ Sport™, FootJoy remains the overwhelming favourite for golfers of all abilities around the world.
