Busher Ends Wait for Faldo Series Glory

Robert Busher of Salisbury & South Wilts was victorious in the Faldo Series UK Championship at Old Fold Manor Golf
Club in Barnet. The 20-year-old was competing in his sixth Series event in as many years and was delighted to make his first final after two level par rounds of 71.
“I can’t wait to meet Sir Nick and compete at the Grand Final,” said Busher who will compete in the World Amateur Golf Ranking event at Lough Erne Resort on September 11-13. “Its extra special because I’ve been playing on the Series for so long.”
“I’ve never seen anyone roll putts on our greens as well as Robert did this week,” added Peter Mcevoy, Head Professional of Old Fold Manor.
Jack Singh-brar (Boys’ Under-16) from Bramshaw and Nick Ward (Boys’ Under-18) of Brocket Hall booked their places in the 16th Faldo Series Grand Final, to be hosted by six-time Major Champion Nick Faldo at Lough Erne in Northern Ireland thanks to rounds of 72 and 71.
Two other age group winners heading to Lough Erne are Gabriella Cowley (Girls’ Under-16) of West Essex and Amber Ratcliffe (Girls’ Under-21). 16-year-old Ratcliffe will be looking to go one better than her second place finish in the 2011 Grand Final.
Supported by The R&A, the European Tour and Lough Erne Resort, the 2012 Faldo Series Europe schedule features a record 20 tournaments in 14 countries including six in England plus others in Bahrain, Ireland, Chile, the Czech Republic, Greece, Wales, Austria, Brazil, Germany, The Netherlands, Scotland, Slovakia and Russia.
Established in 1996, 38 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 28 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year. Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.
Leading final scores: Boys’ Under-21: 142 – Robert Busher (Salisbury & South Wilts) 71-71; 147 – Ben Smith (Sandy Lodge) 74-73; 148 – Alex Lodge (East Berkshire) 77-71. Boys’ Under-18: 143 – Nick Ward (Brocket Hall) 72-71; 145 – Cameron Long (Drayton Park) 71-74; 146 – Charlie George (Lindfield) 74-72, David Langley (Castle Royle) 72-74. Boys’ Under-16: 143 – Jack Singh-brar (Bramshaw) 72-71; 146 – Mitchel Sarling (Rochford Hundred) 73-73; 148 – Patrick Bart (Burnham Beaches) 72-76. Girls’ Under-21: 148 – Amber Ratcliffe (Royal Cromer) 76-72; 153 – Shannon Flynn (Burhill) 70-83. Girls’ Under-16: 144 – Gabriella Cowley (West Essex) 72-72; 153 – Elizabeth Prior (Foxhills) 74-79.
