Novak Surges to Faldo Series Czech Title
Posted by: Darren Ramowski on Wed 27 Jun 2012
Vitek Novak won the second Faldo Series Czech Championship at the Telc Golf Resort from ten shots back after a blistering final round 64. The 16-year-old Czech becomes the first player in Faldo Series history to win titles in two different European countries, having won the 2011 Slovakia Championship.
After two solid rounds of level par 72, Novak lit up the course on the final day with eight birdies and no dropped shots. His 64 came after a putting lesson from Keith Wood, Sir Nick Faldo’s personal coach who was on hand all week to offer expert advice to the 112 competitors.
Ondrej Lieser (Boys’ Under-21) and David Strouf (Boys’ Under-18) both sealed spots at a second successive Grand Final, winning their age categories by ten and three shots respectively.
Two other age group winners heading to the 16th Faldo Series Grand Final, to be hosted by Faldo at Lough Erne Resort in September, are Johanka Steindlerova (Girls’ Under-16) and Dominika Czudkova (Girls’ Under-21). 18-year-old Czudkova birdied the fifth extra hole to book her ticket to Northern Ireland.
Supported by The R&A, the European Tour and Lough Erne Resort, the 2012 Faldo Series Europe schedule features a record 20 tournaments in 14 countries including six in England plus others in Bahrain, Ireland, Chile, the Czech Republic, Greece, Wales, Austria, Brazil, Germany, The Netherlands, Scotland, Slovakia and Russia.
Established in 1996, 38 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 28 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year. Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.
