Delight for Dransfield with First Gtour Win
Posted by: Darren Ramowski on Mon 25 Jun 2012
Playing in only his 2nd event Shropshire golfer Matt Dransfield claimed his first win on tour.
In weather which could only be described as truly British, 6 handicapper Dransfield was able secure his victory with a modest 31 points leaving 5 other amateur golfers each with 30 points to fight it out on count back for 2nd.
"My game plan was just to keep the ball in play" said Dransfield.
"To try and par my way around! but with the weather being so brutal I just took each hole and each shot on its own merit as it changed the golf course dramatically from those on the scorecard. I just battled each hole, irons off tees whereever possible, laying up and backing myself to up and down for pars when there was lots of trouble around the greens"
Despite the weather all who attended the event at De Vere Wychwood Park commended the course for its condition and the challenges it delivered.
With 5 events completed the Gtour takes a break for a few weeks before returning to the North West on the 21st July at De Vere Mottram Hall, another popular venue of seasons passed.
Dransfield Added "Winning feels great, especially as it was so unexpected with 31 points! I'm looking forward to the next one and making sure I qualify and hopefully get through to Cyprus.
Sponsored by De Vere Venues, Aphrodite Hills Cyprus, Bunker Mentality, Aegean Airlines, Aim-Mate and GolfMission, The Gtour – Race to Cyprus is the leading Amateur golf tour in the UK and unlike any other golf event is open to all golfers. With weekend events, Year long Order of Merit and no restriction on club or non club status The Gtour – Race to Cyprus provides a unique fun, social and competitive tour experience. Competing in at least 3 qualifying events around the UK the top 52 players will be invited to compete in the UK semi final in the Autumn at De Vere Belton Woods before the top 10 progress to Aphrodite Hills in January 2013.
