Inside the Callaway European Tour Truck
4,500 grips…350 wood heads…2,100 shafts…150 dozen balls…600 leather golf gloves and that's only part of it.
The newest edition to Callaway Europe’s Tour Team – the new state-of-the art Tour Truck is a mammoth vehicle, all 33,400kg of it.
In 2012 it will clock up 30,000 miles shadowing Callaway players competing on the European Tour and under the watchful eye of the company’s Tour Technician Supervisor, Paul Monks.
The mobile Aladdin's Cave provides unrivalled levels of service and support for its 24 European Staff Professionals along with other Tour Pros using Callaway and Odyssey products. The workshop is capable of building a RAZR Fit Driver, ready for play, in just 15 minutes, or a full set of custom-fitted Callaway irons in as little as two hours.
At any one time the new Callaway Tour Truck carries:
- 4,500 grips with 45 options of model or colour
- 2,100 shafts
- 350 wood heads
- 300 wedge heads in three models across all lofts
- 30 sets of Callaway Irons in six models
- 3,000 ferrules
- 200 head covers
- 250 branded caps
- 600 white golf gloves
- 1,800 golf balls
- 10 waterproof suits
- 1,000 golf tees
- 36 visors
- 40 bobble hats
- 20 pairs of mittens
- 15 umbrellas
- 50 golf bag towels…
…and just in case the players get thirsty or hungry, there are:
- 96 cans of Diet Coke
- 36 litres of drinking water
- 1,150 tea bags
- 500g of coffee
- 1lb of sugar
- two boxes of Bran Flakes.
Players and caddies arriving on the new Truck have their own reception area, which contains a dedicated locker for each player, where they can access their hats, shoes, gloves and balls for that week’s play.
In addition, the Tour Truck has its own conference suite which acts as an important business hub where players and their managers can meet with Callaway executives, or relax in the knowledge they have access to Sky HD satellite television, Apple TV or can keep up-to-date with the outside world thanks to the Tour Truck’s own internet connectivity.
Paul said: “The Callaway Tour Truck is an essential part of the support we offer our Staff Professionals and is always a hub of activity. When we are travelling from event-to-event (up to 20 a year), driving to countries like Spain, Sweden, Wales or Germany, our main objective is to cater for every need of the tour player as rapidly, accurately and efficiently as possible.”
It takes the Callaway team just 20 minutes from arriving at a venue to have the Truck up and running. Paul added: “A special hydraulic system allows us to get the truck as level as possible, important when you are working with machinery, and then we set about washing it ready for the week. That’s a job in itself as the sheer scale of the vehicle can mean it takes over two hours – in the heat of the Spanish sun, that’s hard work!”
