Casual Golf Shoes
Posted by: Owen Davies on Fri 25 May 2012
A new wave of golf shoe has been hitting the golf market over the last 12 months in the form of a trainer/street/golf hybrid shoe. These shoes are mainly designed for summer golf and have an emphasis on comfort and street fashion.
Fred Couples was the first player to adopt these shoes while complaining of a chronic bad back. Since then many tour pros have been pulling on these types of shoe in the locker room including Tiger Woods. Whether they are a further move away from golf’s elitist image or a step too far is still open to debate, but it seems that they are here to stay.
Golfshake has taken a look at some of the new Golf/Trainer hybrid shoes currently available in today’s market.
Ashworth Cardiff Golf Shoe
The New Ashworth Cardiff shoe has a distinctive sports shoe design that resembles a squash shoe with its white leather upper, rubber sole and suede toe.
The Cardiff shoe features a studded non-spike sole and can be worn on and off the golf course. To guarantee excellent grip on the course, Ashworth have designed the shoe with specifically placed traction lugs.
FootJoy Contour Casual
The Contour Casual is Footjoy’s new street golf shoe. They are not as trainer- like in appearance as some on the market, but still have a relaxed and comfortable look. The Contour Casual have been designed using the same methods as the successful Footjoy Contour shoe and as result deliver similar high levels of performance.
The upper is made from full grain leather to increase flexibility within the shoe. The sole is made from Duramax, which is a rubber compound that is especially suited to gripping the turf. The dimples on sole also help to increase stability while on the course. The Contour Casual also comes in several different colour combinations and can be fitted in 47 different ways including width.
Ecco Golf Biom Hybrid
Ecco Golf has made a huge impact within the casual/street golf shoe market over the last 2 years. This started with Freddie Couples raising eyebrows on tour by wearing their spike-less street shoe. The latest Ecco Golf Biom shoe embraces the spike-less revolution and matches style and comfort with advanced shoe technology.
Ecco have scanned over 2500 golfer’s feet in order to create a perfect fit. The upper is made from Yaks leather and Hydromax technology is applied to create breathability and resistance to stains.
The sole creates the stability and grip a golfer needs via a 100 moulded traction bar sole. The Ecco Biom Hybrid shoe is also gore-tex treated to make sure you stay dry on the golf course.
Ecco Golf street shoes
The Ecco Golf Street shoes have a trainer like feel and appearance making them one of the most comfortable on the golf market. Ecco have however designed the Golf Streets shoes to withstand even the most intense game of golf and conditions.
The sole is designed with maximum grip in mind and feature Ecco’s moulded 100 traction bar sole.
The upper shoe is made from leather and features a second layer which is designed to wick natural moisture away from the skin and keep your feet dry and comfortable.
Adidas Performance Samba
The Adidas Samba has been nothing short of a true icon over the last 30 years and now it has hit the fairways!
The Golf Samba has all the classic looks of the street trainer and is available in several different colour configurations.
The Samba is made from an ultra thin water resistant synthetic leather skin and has 6 soft spikes in each sole to create excellent grip that is needed on the course.
Nike Golf Dunk NG shoes
Much like the Adidas Samba, these Nike Dunk NG shoes bring a complete trainer look and feel to the golf course.
The Dunk DG may have a true trainer like appearance, but they have been designed very much with golf in mind.
The upper shoe is made from full grain leather and offers a 2 year water proof guarantee. A full length sock liner and rubber cup sole help to provide on-course comfort.
The sole is fitted with 6 scorpion stinger spikes to create the grip a high performance golfer needs.
