Disabled British OpenEntries are now being accepted for the second annual yourgolftravel.com Junior Disabled British Open, which takes place at East Sussex National on August 24/25.

Now with a title sponsor for the first time, the country’s most inclusive golf tournament for young disabled golfers is looking to build upon its successful inaugural event in 2011 which saw 13-year-old Frankie Jones, from Welshpool, become the competition’s first champion.

Lindsey Horton, project manager with Remarkable Events, which owns and manages the tournament, said: “Everything is now in place to ensure we have a fabulous 2012 competition and we anticipate a large entry following the coverage the event received last year.

“It’s an ideal, maybe even unique, opportunity for youngsters to play social yet competitive in a genuine tournament environment. The senior event has attracted people from nearly 20 different countries, and, given time, we see no reason why the junior competition won’t do the same.”

The annual yourgolftravel.com Junior Disabled British Open runs alongside the senior event and is open to golfers who are aged between 12 and 18 (inclusive) as at August 23, 2012. All entrants must hold a recognised handicap certificate or an official letter from their club’s golf professional, illustrating their playing handicap. Entries will be accepted up to and including Monday, August 13.

The tournament will be played over two rounds of golf – one on each of the two days – using the Stableford scoring system. The entry fee of £37.50 includes two rounds of golf, a course planner, packed lunch on both days and a buffet dinner in the hotel on Friday evening.

Last year the DBO received support from far and wide including the UK Government – both the Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport, Jeremy Hunt MP, and the Minister for Disabled People, Maria Miller MP, praised it for its inclusivity and legacy – the sport’s governing body, the R&A, the European Tour and Wealden District Council.

The Junior Disabled British Open welcomes golfers with a wide range of both physical and mental conditions.
