Organisers expect another record turnout for this year’s Faldo Series Germany Championship which will return to the Sporting Club Berlin in the Sport & SPA Resort A-ROSA Scharmützelsee on July 23-24.

“The number of young German golfers benefitting from the Faldo Series has grown considerably in the first two years,” said Sir Nick Faldo.  “We hope even more will be able to take part this year and join more than 7,000 Faldo Series golfers in 28 countries worldwide.”

The six-time Major Champion added:  “I am very proud of our involvement with the course at the Sporting Club Berlin and thank the Sport & Spa Resort A-ROSA Scharmützelsee and the Sporting Club Berlin for their continued commitment to the Series into a third year.”

“It was an amazing experience to meet young golfers from all over the world at the Faldo Series Grand Final in Ireland and then play against them,” commented Warayu Melzer, winner of the 2011 Germany Championship.  “What impressed me most was the opportunity to receive personal advice from golf legend Nick Faldo and rising star Rory McIlroy.  I will never forget that.”

Talented golfers aged 12 to 21 will compete over two rounds on the Faldo Course in Bad Saarow on July 23-24.  With the field divided into five age-groups – three for boys and two for girls – the age-group winners will join Faldo for the sixteenth Faldo Series Europe Grand Final at Lough Erne Resort in Northern Ireland in September.

Off the course, competitors at the third Germany Championship will learn from Keith Wood, Faldo’s personal coach.  Wood will also spend time with younger children from the local community as part of a drive to help boost access to grass-roots golf.

Supported by The R&A, the European Tour and Lough Erne Resort, the 2012 Faldo Series Europe schedule features a record 20 tournaments in 14 countries including six in England plus others in Bahrain, Ireland, Chile, the Czech Republic, Greece, Wales, Austria, Brazil, Germany, The Netherlands, Scotland, Slovakia and Russia.

Established in 1996, 38 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 28 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year.  Past winners include Major Champions McIlroy and Yani Tseng.

Golfers born in 1991 or later wishing to enter the Faldo Series Germany Championship at Sporting Club Berlin on July 23-24 should email [email protected] or visit www.a-rosa-golf.de.
