Golf Tourism Industry Seminars go Global

Posted by: Darren Ramowski on Fri 10 Feb 2012

A programme of seminars offering advice to Scottish businesses involved in the travel, hospitality and golf industry sectors begin next week. Hosted at venues across Scotland, this year’s series of five February Forums, organised by Golf Tourism Scotland (GTS), will have a distinctly cosmopolitan feel.

Each specially arranged session will explore opportunities to promote golf and golf-related businesses to international audiences as well as outlining resources to assist with researching new markets and developing promotional activities. There will also be presentations from local speakers and updates from Golf Tourism Scotland itself.

The enlightening sessions will bring together leading practitioners in the tourism industry who will provide industry insights and fresh ideas about international promotion. As well as key-note speakers, the seminars will also include Q&A sessions, creative workshops and networking buffet lunches.

GTS chairman Lee Derrick said this year’s forums had been tailored around international opportunities to promote Scotland. “The idea behind the 2012 GTS February Forums is to encourage industry engagement and collaboration with the view to promoting Scotland around the world,” he noted. “More than ever, the golf industry needs to ensure Scotland is seen as a desirable place to visit with every business in the sector playing its part. This year’s February Forums have been designed to provide straightforward advice about how this can be achieved and what help is out there to help kick-start this process.”

The GTS February Forums will take place at five venues across Scotland. The series kicks off at Meldrum House Country Hotel in Aberdeenshire on 16th February then moves to the Barceló Troon Marine Hotel in Ayrshire (21st February) followed by Craigielaw Golf Club in East Lothian (23rd February) and then onto Kingmills Hotel in the Highlands (28th February). The tour concludes at St Andrews Links Golf Academy in Fife on 1st March.

“It is a very stimulating programme which we are taking round the country,” said Derrick. “These are exciting times for Scotland’s golf industry and we intend to make sure that all businesses can make the most of the opportunities that are out there. That is what the February Forums are all about.”

The series of five afternoon sessions is open to all GTS members and any golf-related companies looking to promote their businesses internationally. The events run from 12.30pm - 4.30pm.
