Stricker Secures Winning Start To 2012 For Titleist
Posted by: Darren Ramowski on Wed 11 Jan 2012
With each player at the PGA Tour’s season-opening Tournament of Champions having tasted victory in 2011, it took a special performance to take the title. Titleist Brand Ambassador Steve Stricker fired four consecutive rounds in the 60’s, including a scintillating 10-under par 63 in the second round, to post a 23-under par total and claim his 12th career PGA Tour title. Stricker’s closing 4-under par 69 saw him record victory by three shots from fellow Pro V1x loyalist Martin Laird who finished second, leading a top-eight where every player put their trust in the #1 Ball in Golf. Joining Stricker in the winner’s circle this weekend was Pro V1x loyalist Louis Oosthuizen who successfully defended his Africa Open title on the European Tour and ensured Titleist continues as the choice of champions across the worldwide professional tours.
Stricker put his trust in a host of Titleist equipment, including the Pro V1x golf ball, 909D3 driver, 906F2 fairway, 909H hybrid, AP2 irons and Vokey Design sand and lob wedges. Stricker qualified for the Tournament of Champions having recorded two victories in 2011, The Memorial and the John Deere Classic, and his win at Kapalua, Hawaii, marks his eighth PGA Tour title in his last 50 starts. Joining Stricker and Laird towards the top of the leaderboard were Titleist Brand Ambassador Webb Simpson (Pro V1x) and Titleist golf ball loyalist Jonathan Byrd (Pro V1x), who tied for third on 19-under par and helped lead Titleist golf balls to a clean sweep of the top eight positions. Titleist was also the overwhelming golf ball of choice at the event with 23 of the 27 players putting their trust in the superior performance of the legendary Pro V1 franchise. Titleist was also the top choice across every major equipment category including drivers, fairway metals, hybrids, irons, sand, lob and approach wedges, and putters.
On the European Tour, Titleist golf ball loyalist Louis Oosthuizen (Pro V1x) won in his native South Africa for the second consecutive year, closing with a final round 6-under par 67 to record victory at the Africa Open. Oosthuizen posted a 27-under par total, edging his fellow countryman and Pro V1 loyalist Tjaart Van der Walt by two shots. Titleist was also the golf ball of choice in South Africa with 156 players, more than five times the nearest competitor with 21.
Elsewhere, on the Australian Tour, Titleist golf ball loyalists filled each of the top three positions at the Victoria Open, where Scott Arnold (Pro V1) recorded his first professional victory. Arnold closed with a 3-under par 68 to finish one shot clear of fellow Titleist golf ball loyalist Kurt Barnes (Pro V1) and five clear of third place finisher Mike Hendry (Pro V1). Titleist was also the golf ball of choice in Australia with 110 players, compared to 20 for the nearest competitor.
A 12th career PGA Tour victory for Titleist Brand Ambassador Steve Stricker, as well further wins around the world for Titleist golf ball loyalists, continues to prove that the world’s best players continue to opt for the matchless performance of Titleist for their success.
