Donald Completes Historic Double to Conclude a Momentous Season for Footjoy on the European Tour
Posted by: Darren Ramowski on Fri 16 Dec 2011
FootJoy Press Release
FootJoy, the #1 Shoe & Glove in golf capped off a momentous year on The European Tour at the season-ending Dubai World Championship as World #1 and FJ Ambassador, Luke Donald put in a stunning performance over the weekend to capture The Race to Dubai title at Jumeirah Golf Estates. It completes a truly remarkable season for the 34 year-old Englishman, who becomes the first player in history to win the money list on both sides of the Atlantic.
In what was to be tense week, Donald knew that only his very best golf would be good enough if he was to fend off the World #2 and FJ Brand Ambassador, Rory McIlroy who was the only player in the field with a realistic chance of wrestling the Race to Dubai crown away from the World #1 after his scintillating victory in Hong Kong the previous week. After a slow start in the opening round, Donald wearing his FJ ICON golf shoes quickly moved through the gears and successive rounds of 66 over the weekend ensured that his third place in the tournament was more than enough to guarantee his place in the record books.
The 2011 season has been nothing short of remarkable for Donald and was kick started back in February with a victory at the World Golf Championship Accenture Match Play in the Arizona desert. This was then followed by a memorable playoff triumph over fellow FJ loyalist, Lee Westwood at The BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. It was at this point that Donald took over as the Number 1 ranked player in the world and from there his confidence soared as he promptly went on to win The Barclays Scottish Open and the Children’s Miracle Network Classic on The PGA Tour which captured the PGA Tour money title.
Donald’s epic season completes a momentous year for FootJoy, as the #1 Shoe and Glove in Golf continues to reaffirm its status as the overriding footwear brand of choice amongst members of The European Tour. With the world’s top 3 players in Donald, US Open Champion Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood, 2011 has certainly seen FootJoy shine. Throughout the season an impressive 63% of players relied on the superior comfort and stability of FootJoy shoes, compared to just 16% for its nearest competitor. FootJoy was also accountable for 60% of all top ten finishes, which is almost four times that of its nearest competitor, as well as amassing a remarkable 29 tournament victories.
