Titleist Brand Ambassador Rory McIlroy set up a thrilling conclusion to the European Tour's Race to Dubai with victory at the UBS Hong Kong Open. The Northern Irishman holed out from a greenside bunker at the last hole to cap a flawless final round of 65 (-5).  His 12-under 268 total was two strokes clear of fellow Pro V1x loyalist Grégory Havret and four better than defending champion Ian Poulter (Pro V1x). The win is McIlroy’s second of the 2011 European Tour season following his maiden Major Championship victory at the U.S. Open at Congressional Country Club.

McIlroy trusted a full bag of Titleist equipment for victory, including the performance and control of the legendary Pro V1x golf ball. McIlroy’s winning bag also included the feel and precision of the new 712 MB forged irons and the patented spin milled technology of the Vokey Design SM4 wedges. The World #2 also utilised the 910D2 driver, 906F2 fairway metals, and Scotty Cameron GSS Newport putter for his success. Through eighteen European Tour events this season, McIlroy has registered twelve top-ten finishes, more than any other player, and has won over €3,066,605. His victory should also ensures a dramatic climax to next week’s Dubai World Championship, where McIlroy will go head-to-head with World #1 Luke Donald (Pro V1x) in the battle to become Europe’s number one golfer. As well as being the choice of the champion in Hong Kong, the iconic Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf ball models were also the overwhelming choice of the field with 83 players, nearly four times that of the nearest competitor with 21.

Elsewhere, on the South African Tour, Pro V1x loyalist and World #3 Lee Westwood successfully defended his title at the Nedbank Golf Challenge by two shots. His win was set-up by a thrilling course record 62 (-10) in Saturday’s third round which enabled the Englishman to hold off strong final day performances from Titleist Brand Ambassadors Robert Karlsson (Pro V1x) and Jason Dufner who finished second and third respectively. The victory was Westwood’s third worldwide victory of 2011 and the 36th of his career.

On the Japan Tour, Pro V1 loyalist Hiroyuki Fujita defeated Toru Taniguchi (Pro V1x) in a playoff to win his second straight Golf Nippon Series JT Cup. Titleist was the preferred golf ball choice at the limited field event and also topped the equipment count for drivers, hybrids, iron sets, and sand, lob and approach wedges. On the Australasian Tour, Brad Kennedy (Pro V1x) captured the New Zealand Open after making birdie on the first hole of a sudden death play-off. Titleist was the ball of choice at the event with 100 players, including ten of the top-11 finishers, teeing up a Pro V1 or Pro V1x, compared to 33 for the nearest competitor. These victories take Titleist’s worldwide golf ball win count to 173, compared to 27 for the nearest competitor.

Victory for Titleist Brand Ambassador Rory McIlroy, plus a host of other wins around the world for Titleist golf ball loyalists, proves once again that the world’s best players continue to opt for the matchless performance of Titleist for their success.
