Westwood Wins China Golf Challenge
Posted by: Adam Smith on Tue 18 Oct 2011
As a sponsor of the Shui On Land China Golf Challenge, Druh Belts & Buckles was delighted to see Lee Westwood top the leaderboard on Sunday (October 16) especially as the Englishman is an international brand ambassador for the ‘db’ belt range.
World number two, Westwood, won the unique seven-day, seven-city tournament following a play-off with China’s Liang Wen-chong after the pair were tied on two under 71 after 18 holes, one ahead of Ian Poulter of England and eight ahead of Ireland’s Rory McIlroy.
“I think I do well in Asia because I just adapt well. I adapt to the grasses and I adapt the culture and the food. Playing world golf is all about adapting,” said Westwood, 38, who has won 21 times on the European Tour and is considered one of the game’s truly global golfers, appearing regularly in Asia.
Westwood is a Druh brand ambassador alongside Sweden’s Robert Karlsson, Thai superhero Thongchai Jaidee, Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn and Irishman Paul McGinley.
When the Challenge came to a conclusion at Caesars Golf in Macau, the awesome foursome had covered 5,600 kilometres by air in the world’s most populous country after visiting the Chinese cities of Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Beijing, Dalian, Chongqing and Dongguan and playing just a few holes in each.
Over the week the Shui On Land Golf Challenge, the first made-for-television competition of its kind, gained international media coverage and achieved its ambitions of raising the profile of golf in China.
