PowerPlay Golf First Televised Global Event

By: Darren Ramowski | Mon 30 May 2011

PowerPlay GolfThe first televised PowerPlay Golf event takes place later today and is hailed as the exciting new format, bringing an innovative format to invigorate the sport for TV sports fans and to help grow the game of golf worldwide.

The first event takes place at The Celtic Manor Resort, City Of Newport, Wales, on Bank Holiday Monday May 30th 2011 at 1700 BST with an international field of 12 players containing no fewer than six Major-winners with 15 Major wins and over 300 Tour victories between them.

Golf’s global ambassador Gary Player will headline the field along with reigning US Open Champions Graeme McDowell and Paula Creamer, Ryder Cup stars Paul Casey and Ian Poulter, and Major Championship winners John Daly, Ian Woosnam and Helen Alfredsson.

With play in four groups of three, each group will have it's own dedicated commentary team, passing expert opinion on the unique high-pressure decisions which the PowerPlay format creates. The team of respected golf commentators will be led by presenter Dominic Holyer and will include familiar faces like Dianna Dougherty, Dale Hayes, Richard Boxall and Jay Townsend.

The event will also see the commentators and caddies, together with the players, permitted to use Nikon’s 350G device during the event under a local rule within the Rules of Golf.

The winner of the nine-hole tournament in May will receive £100,000 from a £350,000 prize fund, and PowerPlay Golf will also donate a further 20% of each player’s prize money to the charity of their choice.

Be part of the action with a selection of unique golf tournament experiences, from playing in a pro-am with the stars to watching the action at golf’s most illustrious events.
