De Vere Wychwood Park plays host to enthraling PGA EuroPro Tour Event

A week after the Gtour had thier event the PGA EuroPro Tour offered a great showcase of tournament golf as the ABC Solutions UK Championship was decided on the 72nd hole in dramatic fashion, at De Vere Wychwood Park. The testing Cheshire venue has enjoyed a busy summer of championships in 2010 and the PGA EuroPro Tour’s visit illustrated why the venue is becoming renowned as a difficult layout.

England’s Zane Scotland, who spends his time playing on the European Challenge Tour and EuroPro Tour, clinched victory after James Busby succumbed to a final hole double bogey, handing Scotland a one shot victory. Scotland fired a final round 4-under par 68 to equal the best round of the tournament and post a five-under par total, claiming the first prize of £10, 000.

Jon Farmer, Golf Manager at De Vere Wychwood Park, commented, “We have had a fantastic week of competition, and it was great to see so many players in with a chance of winning in the final round. It’s a shame that James couldn’t finish his round off, but Zane played very well and to score 68 in the final round is very impressive. The course has been fantastic this week and the fact that there were only a few scores in the 60’s shows just how good a challenge the course is.”

James Heath, who finished third at the ABC Solutions UK Championship, added, “The course was in great condition and is one of the strongest courses that I have played in any Challenge Tour or EuroPro Tour event. The course design was superb and it wouldn’t look out of place on the European Tour.”

De Vere Wychwood Park has established itself as one of the premier championship venues in the North-West of England in 2010, hosting PGA Order of Merit and PGA EuroPro Tour events, as well as becoming a venue for the European Tour Qualifying School Stage 1 in September.
