International Pairs & De Vere continue with strong partnership
International Pairs has announced a glittering line-up of championship venues to host its regional finals this year as part of its new agreement with major golf hotel group De Vere.
De Vere Hotels Resorts and Venues, who signed a deal last month to become one of International Pairs’s chief sponsors for 2010, will provide five of the six courses that will host regional finals in the run-up to the competition‘s UK and world finals later this year.
Slaley Hall, Oulton Hall, Belton Woods, Mottram Hall and Wokefield Park have all been chosen to host the events in September, with The Players Club near Bristol completing the impressive list.
In addition to the five regional finals, De Vere’s championship course at Wychwood Park will host the UK Final from September 26-27 while the stunning Carrick on Loch Lomond resort has been awarded the honour of staging the International Pairs World Final for the first time from October 6-8.
Ross Honey, managing director and founder of International Pairs, said: “Our new relationship with De Vere has helped us to maintain International Pairs’s reputation for providing top-class venues for our finals.
“The courses are, without doubt, some of the best to be found anywhere in the UK and will deliver the sort of golfing challenge and excellence that we have become known for.”
De Vere Hotels, Resorts and Venues has golf at 11 of its properties with 17 golf courses, spreading from the Cheshire countryside, over the Norfolk plains and as far north as the Scottish highlands.
Slaley Hall, which features two courses and will host the regional qualifier for Scotland from September 19-20, has frequently been used as a European Tour venue and will host the De Vere Collection PGA Seniors Championship for the third year running this year.
Oulton Hall, which will stage the north-east regional final on the same dates, has undergone considerable redevelopment work in recent years to transform it into a 27-hole complex with its own golf academy while Mottram Hall will host the Midlands regional final from September 13-14.
Belton Woods and Wokefield Park, who will stage the east and south-east regional finals from September 5-6, complete the list of De Vere venues being used, with The Players Club, near Bristol, selected to hold the South West and Wales regional final from September 12-13.
The top three pairs from each regional final will move forward to contest the International Pairs UK Final at Wychwood Park later that month.
Daniel Hodson, director of golf & leisure for the De Vere Group, commented: “We are delighted to be so heavily involved in the 2010 International Pairs series and it is testament to the depth of quality across our venues that we can host five of the six UK regional finals.
“Each of the layouts offers a unique challenge and I am sure the competitors will find all of the courses are a demanding but fair test of their game.”
More than 500,000 golfers, including West Indian cricket legend Sir Vivian Richards and former Manchester United star Dwight Yorke, and over 40 countries have participated in the International Pairs to date since its inception in 1998.
The number is growing all the time and there are three ways for golfers to enter the competition in the UK - via a club event or the summer and winter matchplay competitions. Closing deadline for the 2010 summer matchplay tournement is April 30 and for more details on how to enter, visit the International Pairs website at www.internationalpairs.com or e-mail info@internationalpairs.com
