Kaymer holds off Poulter for Abu Dhabi Title

abudhabi_422Martin Kaymer holds off England's Ian Poulter to take 2nd Abu Dhabi title in 3 years.

Overnight leader Kaymer, birdied the final hole at Abu Dhabi Golf Club to card a bogey free final round and hold off Poulter to claim his 2nd Abu Dhabi title.  This result see Kaymer move up to 6th in the official world ranking and Poulter breaking into the top 10 for the first time in his carrer.

Despite his best efforts and matching Kaymer hole for hole throughout the round, Poulter's wayward shot on the 18th ultimately stopped him pulling back the one shot overnight deficit to Kaymer.

“It’s a nice start to the season. If you’re going to take the positives out of that, I’m pretty frustrated that I’ve walked away from shooting that score and I haven’t won,” said Poulter.

“But it’s good. I will move on next week in Qatar, have a bit of fun and see if I can go one step closer and then take two weeks off before the Match Play.”

After failing to keep up with the electrifying start to the final round from playing partners Kaymer and Poulter, McIlroy, 20, claimed an eighth top ten finish in his last nine events with a five under 67.
