Benross HTX Compressor Type-R iron Review

By: Golfshake Editor | Mon 03 Jul 2017

Video System Upgrade Taking Place

The Benross HTX Compressor irons are the new flagship model from Benross. Ryan Metcalfe, a PGA professional at the Manor Golf Club had a chance to review the set and give his expert opinion on how he feels the irons perform. The compressor irons have a whole host of new features designed by Benross, adding to the overall great performance of these new and high quality irons.

  • By being innovatively heat treated, the cup face results in the best ever CT performance of a Benross iron
  • Progressive top line thickness
  • KBS Tour 90 or Kuro Kage black shafts as standard
  • Bespoke lamkin UTX grip
  • Standard set includes: 4-PW (GW availiable)

After review, Metcalfe feels that the irons are in between being specific for higher handicap golfers and low handicap golfers. Ryan believes that the iron has characteristics that suit both types of golfer. For example, the cavity backed finish on the irons increase the overall forgiveness of the face and will help the high handicap golfers. However the feel cartridge and finish on the iron give it a tour finish feel and benefit the low handicap golfer.

One of the characteristics unique to the Benross irons is the sound the ball makes off the face, and the low spin rate that occurs off the club. Whilst testing the club on the range off a mat, Metcalfe likes the sound the ball makes off the face with an iron similar to that of a fairway wood or hybrid. The low spin rate was also a significantly specific characteristic to the Benross iron set. This low spin rate massively increased the overall carry and low trajectory of each iron, massively helping the golfer gain a general increase in their distance with each individual iron.

Metcalfe not only assessed the performance but also the overall look and feel of the iron set. He thinks that the teardrop shape of the iron along with its satin-look finish make for a well manufactured and good looking iron. In his opinion, practicing off grass the club dramatically improves, sounding stronger off the face and less 'clinky.' Not only does this finish look like a well finished golf club, but also improves the overall feel and performance of the iron.

Overall, Metcalfe believes that the Benross iron set is perfect for any ability or type of golfer. The club has been designed to benefit both the low and high handicap golfer. It's massive difference in price compared to more expensive iron sets makes it stand out in the market as a cheap alternative to other competitors.
